EDIT: Brief description has been requested.

Back in 2003, this cheap TV channel accidently left their microphones on during a break. We get to hear their opinions about Nicole Kidman being lesbian, and then we find out that (as we knew all along) sound was going out on the channel. It also includes a clip from later in the week referring to the incident. Victor Lewis Smith (of TV Offal on C4 back in the late 90s, sort of a precursor to Charlie Brooker) wrote up about it the next day, leading the incident to infamy. Enjoy.

Oh that friendly TV incident

reminds me of the embarasing wombles incident in 1978 Confused

a bit of explanation costs nothing, don't just assume we all know what you mean

Erm, it is widely known this Friendly TV incident, has been discussed many a time and once had a whole section dedicated to it on now closed site TV & Radio Bits.

The video itself has a lengthy explanation of the incident in the description so I don't think there is any need to complain about my post.

I wasn't complaning just saying don't assume we all know what you are talking about, do you know what I meant by the wombles incident in 1978 or shall I just assume that everybody here was alive back then and saw it and knows exactly what I'm on about so I won't bother explaning myself

Is someone going to explain the wombles incident? At least the Friendly TV one was backed up with a video.

I can only assume that Bernard Cribbins called Madame Cholet a lesbian when he thought his mic was off.

Oh, don't worry about that, I think every educated person knows about how the womble/rabbit turf war over burrowing rights came to a head in 1978 after "Watership Down" came out, and the ugly scenes as the wombles tried to execute Mike Batt as a traitor, tying him to a stake on Wimbledon Common and chanting "Bright eyes, BURN HIM WITH FI-IRE!".

they accidentally fast forwarded it on air, then ran it backwards, then played it at the proper speed

as for mikes left open they did that on the bigger breakfast during a cartoon and you could hear the presenters rehearsing the next segment

I was just making a point of not explaining something and assuming everybody knows what I'm on about

Wow. This is a nice friendly thread! Boxing gloves from the first post, almost. 'Tis the season of goodwill, and all that.

Thanks to the OP for opening this one. I had no clue about this accidental broadcast.

another funny Big breakfast error was during Streaky Bacon where the monitor behind Richard Bacon cut back to the house where they were sat about having a chat whilst the camera man lined his shot up
