Did you see Shirley Ghostman on the show on Friday?

he was extremely offensive and his last 'joke' was out of order and should never be covered in comedy. How did it survive the edit??

Listening to the repeat, you can tell that there were a lot of edits already.

I agree the final joke was absolutely disgusting, and the audience groaned at it. Even Jonathon Ross who is quick to react with a joke when things go tits up, looked absolutely stunned. He was pretty much embarassed of the bloke throughout the entire interview. How the hell must we Brits of looked to the likes of David Schwimmer and Nicole Kidman i don't know! You could tell when they were in the green room that they were not comfortable.

The show as a whole really was a bit cringing. Nicole didn't really enjoy Jonathons usual humour, and was getting quite scared at one point. David Schwimmer was ok for a while but then Jonathon started talking about he looks like a geeky child, and that ruined it all.

I choose to forget this show ASAP

I thought it wasn't up to the usual standard for Jonathon Ross. It had a different atmosphere, it seemed awkward and uncomfortable.

The interview with Nicole Kidman was funny (probably the best of the three), but you couldn't help feeling sorry for her for not really getting JR's humour!

Shirley Ghostman was a mistake - most of the people I know who watched the show turned off during this interview. This was mainly as they didn't have a clue who he was. Even JR seemed embarassed and bored during the interview. Some of the jokes were quite shocking, and very bad taste. I didn't find any of it funny - maybe if I had seem his BBC Three show I might have done, but I don't think I'll be tuning in now. I think it was this interview which put David Schwimmer on edge, and he really didn't seem to want to open up. So not the best show!

May I ask what the offending jokes were?

The last one with which the interview hastily ended, which I just caught on the repeat on BBC Three, was something like "I get my angels to deliver the messages to the other side, terminally ill people. Trouble is the kemo plays havok with their memory."

Yup that was the worst. He also told a Kurt Cobain "Shooting" joke which was in bad taste too i think. It was just an unfunny interview. And the bloke in general was a prat!

And chemo plays hell with your spelling!

Why don't they just get rid of the offensive host and the offensive show, then they wouldn't need to worry about the offensive guests.

It annoys me when actors go for interviews in character when they clearly can't characterise without a script. Shirley Ghostman is a character played by comic actor Marc Wootton. (See: http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/guide/talent/w/wootton_marc.shtml )

His BBC Three show is laughable but hardly anything that is brilliant. Personally it may have flopped.

I agree this weeks edition of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross felt awkward from beginning to end. Rolling Eyes

I thought it was quite funny. Nothing wrong with that last joke. Not told very well I agree and the bloke was a bit of a pratt. Far less ofensive though than people like Doris Stokes who do much the same act but without a sense of humour.

And it does celebrities good to have the micky taken out of them sometimes

Jonathan is by far the funniest person on the BBC. His Radio show is fantastic. If you want bland chat try Parky.

for the shirley ghostman jokes/charector to make any sense you really needed to have watched the show. it is one of the funniest things on the tv, and the fact it (and in a sense nighty night) started on bbc 3 mean the bbc can afford to push the boundaries of humour that little bit further. in the past channel 4 and bbc 2 were the home of edgey programmes - now i believe bbc 3 is. as with every comedy show - there are unfunny bits.

but anyway, in hindsight a mistake to think the bbc 1 audience would appreciate bbc 3 humour.

Couldn't agree more. Enjoy watching Friday Night and listening to his radio show too.

Parky is good, but when you watch him you wonder whether hes on a drip or not!

I watched the repeat with a mate last night to see whether the comments in this thread were justified.

I thought Shirley was funny. I loved the edgy nature of the jokes.

The shameful bit is how poorly handled he was by Ross. Clearly Ross hadn't bothered to even watch an episode of his guests programme or he would have KNOWN the nature of the humour. Shirley Ghostman is a near-knuckle act and its done dead-pan. He's really very good.

Johnathan Ross led the audience to their reaction. He stared at the audience in bafflement, and they followed on. If he had laughed, then they would have got it.

Ross was particularly awful with Kidman too. She wasn't enjoying it, and went on to say "please get me out of here" toward the end of the interview.

I didn't stay tuned to watch Schwimmer.

The show flopped because of Johnathan Ross, not Shirley Ghostman.
