I don't suppose anyone on here watches Franceinfo TV? When I'm working in France, I occasionally watch their evening news shift. When it launched, I very much enjoyed the 'informal but high-brow' style - Myriam Bounafaa was the presenter and from various presentation points around the newsroom studio, there was a good mix of 'modules', headline reminders, guests and in-studio reporting - interesting and different to anything I've seen in the UK.
I started to watch it again and have been massively disappointed. The lead presenter is now Julien Benedetto who constantly, constantly, constantly spends 3 hours playing "I'm your favourite anchorman". Every opportunity to crack a joke or make 'small talk' is taken, every opportunity to remind the audience they can hit them up with the hashtag '#21hminuit', even on Snapchat (?!) and of course, he wants to thank his producer, his gallery, Clémence and his audience because of course teamwork makes the dreamwork (insert shot of gallery) and *smiles to the camera* 'je compte sur vous'.... MAIS FRANCHEMENT ????
I'm not French, although I've been working/living between the UK and France for years, so I'm probably not the target audience but I cannot understand how things have changed so much on a relatively new channel. The original presenter, Myriam is now an occasional reporter on that slot and the rest of the slot (now 3 hours) is full of gimmicks, and no headlines outside of the news bulletins. There was even a 'chronique musicale' with a guest who had her interview then sung a song off her album it ran into the weather/headlines which were rushed. On Friday's edition, they played out the handover to France 24 at 2359 a song in English by a British rapper (can't remember who) and every second word was 'f**king' - in the UK, Ofcom would have been on speed-dial for sure. It's like news sponsored by a mid-life crisis, really really bad.
I'll get over it, as there is always the excellent Soir3 and France 24 have a good late-evening news slot (which has a few similar hits like an internet/social media wrap and a light-hearted closing story but nothing as desperate as le #21hminuit), BFMTV is ok too, if you take it with a pinch of salt. But still, very disappointed - I wonder if anyone else had remarks on how the Franceinfo TV channel is going too?

Have to admit I miss Myriam Bounafaa on the late slot, she's good to be on any slot, although I'd like to see her on 6h30-9h30. I don't mind the Julian/Clémence duo, at least on that late slot, Clémence has some other tasks to do, such as being part of any news based interview from the desk as a joint interviewer with Julian.
Franceinfo revamped their schedule at the end of August where the early evening presenting duo of Djamel Mazi and Sorya Khaldoun were moved to mid-mornings and weekends now have permanent slots for Fanny Conquy and Alexandra Uzan. Louis Laforge and Marianne Théoleyre on 17h-20h weekdays.
Overall, I still like the presentation and format of the channel and is still a decent alternative to BFMTV, LCI and CNEWS.
I agree, the channel has a refreshing and unique format. It's generally a pleasure to watch, just not after 21h30 weekdays any more for me! Sky in the UK could take some inspiration from it once it is spun off to its new owner.
Going back to Voyage au bout de la nuit, C8's cheap as chips overnight filler. After watching the presenter stumble through a session of reading Sherlock Holmes, it was clear they only record on one take as the presenter mispronounced words and even sneezed and apologised that there clearly isn't the time for retakes with such a high turnover of episodes per night.
NextRadioTV, owner of BFMTV and RMC Découverte, rebranded their other TNT FTA channel Numéro 23 as RMC Story earlier this month.
It makes it more cohesive, since some programmes from the RMC radio station (the
Bourdin Direct
morning show and the
Les Grandes Gueules
talk show) are simulcast on the 23th channel, and the RMC radio station is often named during these shows.
Whenever I've watched Numéro 23, there were always US acquisitions or some Channel 5 circa 1998 'erotic' shows. I did wonder why I was seeing RMC Story next to Découverte, but didn't realise 23 had rebranded!
