Hmm. According to that article Monday had 793,000 viewers (not sure if the French take that as in total from 6.30-9 or was the peak audience total) and a 25.3% share.

The share is high enough, but not impressive if that was the total number of viewers over the show.

Not sure exactly what the problem is.

William Leymergie had a on screen presence which was friendly, but at time distant (particularly towards the end, where he could have phoned in his hosting of the show it was so tied to the Cue cards in front of him) and that is something that Laurent is having difficulty replicating.

Then, moving out of that clinical white small studio, into the carvarnous main France.2 news studio hasn't helped and its lost the closeness it used to have.

Or maybe replacing William with someone with no previous attachment to the programme, instead of promoting from within the team of reporters, hasn't helped.

If Tele Matin production goes to form from previous years, the production goes into 'Skeleton' mode for the summer, where Thierry Bicharo takes over hosting for a couple of weeks, then week by week with one of those reporters.

Maybe it's this window that will buy France 2 some time, to decide what to do and make some changes from the programmes post-summer slumber.

AFAIK, summer mode starts in over two weeks when the traditional 'Jockeys' take over the main news bulletins as well as Télématin across the channels.

The news set is simply too big for Télématin. One of the disadvantages is having the weather presenter sitting behind the desk to basically do a read instead of standing at the catwalk. If they can't do it from a video wall, use the CSO instead.

The 6h00 info bulletin from Franceinfo for France 2 is miles better than what is on afterwards. Their studio would suit the lifestyle breakfast show better than using the oversized studio.

This is true, but strangely Franceinfo went into summer mode over the weekend. All 'appointment to view' strands except the 6:30-9:30 slot are gone for two months, replaced by a single news bulletin every hour (often repeated on the half-hour), and the presenter schedule is turned upside down as everybody takes their long, long holidays!

I wondered why the 10 to Midnight slot had suddenly become solo hosted. Clémence de la Baume didn't turn up with a male presenter sitting at the desk without the regular interview at around 45 past and other reporters at the video wall.

It can't be too long before we don't see Samuel and Karine on the breakfast show, although he was off and Camille Grenu was in for Karine who was the lead presenter today.

It really is the epitome of 'skeleton service' for two months. All the channels do it to some extent; none quite like Franceinfo.

Samuel and Karine did their final breakfast show together of the season yesterday. Clémence was there at 10:00am rather than 10:00pm. Without wanting to turn this one into another rota thread... I think I've made my point that they really do turn it upside down!

Other development of the summer is the appearance of a new newsdesk in the middle of the newsroom. The other one has been screened off...

The new desk looks temporary. They may be working in that area of the set through the summer for a mini-refresh in September as it'll be two years since Franceinfo launched in September 2016. (Aug 31 online).

Fanny Conquy is a classic example of summer cover as she either reports or does features from the screen, rather than any presenting.

I'm also wondering if the 6h30-9h30 bulletin has been kept through the summer due to France 2 commissioning the 6h00 info bulletin before hand, which requires full staffing?

Will this be solved if BBC Breakfast and Télématin switch studios?

Well, if you follow the theory that you should change studio design, look and feel of television breakfast shows at your peril - no. Very Happy

(for case studies see BBC Breakfast Time to BBC Breakfast News. TV-am to GMTV, GMTV to Daybreak v1. 0 and any 'radical' overhaul of the Post-Chris Evans era Big Breakfast presentation area.)

A new music bed (I think?) for the bulletins produced by Radio France on Franceinfo.

Indeed, months ago, new musical beds were released for these "news reminders". I don't find them really convincing, because I think they don't blend well with the original work of 2016. To me, the worst one is probably the one used between 9am and midday.

The original bed can still be heard until 9am, however.

I agree. It's well on brand compared to what came later.

Speaking of music, do you know what's the exact title of the current Télématin theme? (The lyrics sounds like in English, but I have no idea what it is.)
London Lite and WW Update gave kudos

This must be the slowest start to the summer season on France 2.

Nathanaël de Rincquesen has started to cover the 13h bulletin, yet Laurent Bignolas is on Télématin.

Strangely, there is still the normal afternoon programme Ça commence aujourd'hui on, while Je t'aime etc. is off due to the Tour de France. By now, F2 would be showing filler programming such as repeats of prime-time shows or films.

The rear part of Franceinfo's studio was back in action today.
