Not at all - E4 already has the space - it's just encrypted at the moment.
The reason for C4's new slot is unclear - it's more about blocking the competition than launching a significant new channel as C4 have space for More4 and possibly one further channel on their own mux.
Hopefully More4 will launch on the current ITV/C4 mux as it has wider coverage than Mux C, where C4 has won it's new slot.
If More4 is only broadcasting from 4pm to 6am, perhaps in its downtime there will be this widely rumoured "9 live" gaming channel? I'm hoping this wil be the case, rather than the gaming channel taking up a full slot.
Also, according to Digital Spy, Channel 4 have said they aim to have something on air in their newly aquired slot by "late summer." Assuming this isn't More4, as they have been quite vocal about this being launched in October, could it be E4?
I'm also assuming Channel 4 will still want to be leasing out its current E4 slot to Top-Up TV, for them to broadcast a different channel.
Another indication that E4 will soon be leaving Top Up TV is that it doesn't appear on it's sample channel Xtraview on channel 36. You would think that TUTV/Xtraview would want a high profile entertainment channel along with them even if it was for a couple of hours each day.

Doesn't that slot belong to Top-Up TV rather than Channel 4? Surely E4 will move to a C4 owned slot, so that Top-Up can bring in a new channel - preferably something good like Sky One or Paramount Comedy.

It's unclear what the exact contract has. Basically Top Up TV use five's unused space on the SDN mux and one 24-hour stream on the C4 mux - where E4 is hosted, along with Bloomberg and UKTV Food (I think).
It depends how this slot is allocated - it just seems highly unlikely C4 would have to move E4 from it's own space if it went FTA - it probably wouldn't be financially viable. However, leaving it in it's current slot but broadcasting unencrypted would cost C4 very little.
Do you think c4 might use their new channel space to give freeview viewers chance to see live streaming of Big Brother next month? I'd really like to see that - then when BB has finished they can use the channel for whatever new service they want. Then by next summer e4 will be freeview so freeview viewers will have access to BB that way?
