Freeview thread

Just been prompted for a software update for my Pace Freeview box. Does anyone know what it's for?

On a similar note - should I even attempt a software update on my OnDigital Nokia Mediamaster box, or should I leave as it is (i.e. working)? Haven't quite got my head around this "support" issue on old boxes.

My Freeview box has updated twice this month.

You dont get software updates as and when you want them - they come to you when broadcast (but old OnDigital boxes aren't supported by updates anymore).

Does anyone know what the recent Pace updates were for then?

Don't know, but I got this this afternoon also. Couldn't see any obvious changes. Perhaps the new version of MHEG?

The MHEG engine drives the digital text (aka 'interactive') features of the box. The next version will include support for background sound and so is eagerly awaited.

You can search for new software updates through the menu.

The MHEG engine runs interactive services (MHEG applications) such as Teletext and BBCi. It's rumoured that there will be a new version (1.06) but this isn't official yet as far as I know and the BBC have said they won't be making anything that doesn't work on the ITV digital boxes.
