Could somebody tell me what transmitter feeds Plymouth? I've just got a freeview box and the signal strenght is crap, i've tried a signal booster and it's a little better.
I've always been on cable so i've never noticed the transmission state before but i've just hooked up analoge to my little portable and i have no idea!
Have you put your postcode into the DTG Postcode checker? That'll tell you the best transmitter. N.B. I've deliberately given you the retailer/installer version as it gives more detail than the one intended for consumers.
Most likely you should be picking up from the
Plympton
relay. I think that's the only relay in the Westcountry region currently broadcasting DTT (Freeview). Otherwise, I guess you could try the main transmitter
Caradon Hill
.
Watch out for transmitters changing stength with Freeview too. I get some MUXs from Mendip, some from another transmitter within Bristol. 2 MUXs are now weaker on the original transmitter I was tuned to, and stronger on the other one. This caused serious problems with reception suddenly going downhill unexpectedly.

You refer to your little portable. What aerial are you using for your portable?
A proper "YAGI" aerial (rooftop or loft mounted)
A set-top aerial you can buy (which resembles a mini version of a YAGI aerial).
The portable's own loop aerial
If you're using the portable's own loop aerial, that could be the cause of your problem. You will probably need a proper loft/outdoor aerial to get Freeview, even if you can get passable analogue terrestrial on the loop aerial.
Similar things this end, I use an indoor aerial (an amplified one you can get for £20 in Tesco's) and it doesn't pick up everything which is what I expect. What I find odd is that I have two versions of one of the NGW's MUXes, with the channels being the EPG after 800, but AIUI there's more than one version of this MUX being broadcast from Winter Hill.
Due to the location I'm in, I can only pick up Winter Hill, might be able to get something from Moel-Y-Parc in analogue on a good day, but that's it.

I am in the "mendip" area of bristol and this keeps on happening, especially with e4

Yep - there's a Winter Hill "B" which is an extra set of aerials on one side of the mast. ISTR his was a bodge to provide coverage in a null they had to create on the main WH service to prevent interference elsewhere.

Amazingly, downstairs there's not a problem, as the box downstairs is connected to the loft aerial and not an indoor one. I have no choice but use an indoor aerial in my room, otherwise...

Yep, I only have freeview in my room and virgin media downstairs, and to acess different channels I always have to move it, so when i'm watching e4 and then i want to watch e4+1 then i have to move the aerial!
