I'd thought I'd start a thread about Freeview - I did do a search but could not find anything on Freeview alone.

To start the discussion/thread off, take a look at what I found....

- Last April, there was a story about Freeview becoming Payview... here's the story

It seems that the idea has now been scrapped, which is a good thing - click this link for a full update from the same source.

To put in in brief - the story was updated In March 2007, and it was agreed that it was not going to go ahead with the original plan. Laughing

The stories you've linked to were filed over a year ago. Ofcom did alter the licences which means the multiplexes aren't restricted to just holding free channels, but can hold pay channels too. Sky did suggest they would be pulling their channels off and replacing them with four pay channels but they've since gone quiet and rumour has it that those plans have been scrapped.

- Does anyone know any more about this? There's more on this story here

The first story is a year old and is about Ofcom allowing pay services on three multiplexes if that is what market forces decree is sustainable. All that previously means is that previously pay TV services could not be carried on Muxs B, C and D. Now, if market forces decree, they can.

The second story is about Sky dropping their three channels on Freeview in favour of a Top Up TV clone and has been discussed here before.

I'm just pointing out that the original idea has now been scapped and that there's an update to it above! Very Happy

Onto a new discussion....

Does anyone know of any new channels coming to Freeview this year or some time soon?

There are no reports at the moment. But in the past, channels have been announced at very short notice or have just appeared. Just keep an eye on this forum or on Digital Spy.
