Some faults I can see with this channel line up.

32 E4 + 1 (moved from 39) ---- why move E4+1????
33 Eurosport (new LCN)*
34 Setanta Sports (new LCN)*
36 Xtraview*
37 Quiz Call
38 Men & Motors ---- is this where ITV4 will be???

CHILDRENS - moved from 30's
70 CBBC Channel
71 CBeebies
72 Cartoon Network* ---- why not CITV here???
73 Boomerang*
74 Toonami*

101 Teletext TV Guide ---- This channel no longer exists!

Can you explain why you see these as faults!

And yep - noticed that More4 info on the website too, so putting the clues together and it looks like for once something has been posted correctly on the Digital Spy forums!

By the way, this is now confirmed!

IMO it's got to be the most pointless revamp in the history of Freeview EPG revamps! Laughing

Only one channel really benefits from it, ITV3. The move of BBC4 is, well pointless, while all that moving the kids channels has done is freed up an extra 4 slots in the 30s - though these are taken by Eurosport, Setanta Sports, E4+1 and soon ITV4. We'll still have the problem of new channels being hidden away at the end of the general part of the EPG!

The gap from 40-69 is, well pointless, and it leads you to ask why the Radio channels had to be moved (though they did!). And though most agree Radio channels should get 3 digit numbers, there is no need for them to be out in the 700s.

And finally, the Interactive channels move to the 300s. No big deal for those that press RED, but for those just browsing they were quite handy at the end of the EPG as you can just get to them by going down from BBC1!

So along with ITV3, the moving of Teletext and S4C2 are the only things that really make sense!

Is this still meant to be happening from tomorrow?

RE 40-69 - if multiplexes after digi switchoff will all be running at 64QAM thats a possible 8 x 4 more streams - 32 streams. I think they're being left open for them.

Not sure how you reach that figure of 32?

Currently 4 of the 6 DTT muxes are 18Mbs, 2 are 24Mbs.

If all 4 18Mbs services moved to 24Mbs then that would be a 4x6 Mbs increase in platform bandwith, which is 24Mbs (equivalent to adding a new mux).

You couldn't squeeze 32 streams into 24Mbs - you'd be doing well to get 6 decent quality (but we don't bother with that on the other muxes...) or 10 at far-from-high quality - 32 is not possible, unless you think more muxes will be created after analogue switch-off or are taking some time-shifting of multiple channels into account.

Sorry- you misunderstand me - I meant using the then-defunct analogue frequency numbers for the current BBC1,2,ITV and 4 as new slots for multiplexes - thats where I got my 4 extra muxes from. When analogue is switched off, there will be four UHF numbers that have up till now been used for TV transmisisons and quite possibly will be used for the locations for new digital multiplexes.

It's unlikely all current analogue frequencies will become available for digital TV, if any. I'd say at most we'd get two more muxes - if we're lucky - but there is money to be made here in selling them off to, for example, mobile phone companies.

A few years ago when the Government auctioned of space for the mobile network it bought in billions of pounds for the treasury!

Thank you Dan. Don't you think it would have been better if they held on a couple of weeks until ITV4 settled into a slot?

I will be very surprised if ITV4 doesn't appear on the EPG tomorrow afternoon. That is, if they've decided what channel is leaving to make room for it first.

Tomorrow it will be only 14 days before launch. More 4 was on the EPG for at least three weeks before launch. Sky Travel could also be renamed as Sky Three*, just as BBC Three appeared on the EPG when the original Freeview EPG started several months before the channel did.

*this is only speculation.

ITV4 will be on channel 30. Not sure whether it'll show up tomorrow though.

PS No these changes will not happen immediately now it is midnight Smile It could take until about 5pm for the changes to show up.

According to a BBC site, the upgrades are due to take place between 4-7pm tomorrow (or today as it's after midnight).

Clicky.
