Though different people obviously have different priorities, ideally the official EPG should be ordered in such a way so people shouldn't feel the need to create their own line-up - so channels like ITV3 should get a better position than QVC!

I have to order the channels myself, mainly as I pick up two signals and my box prioritises the Welsh channels over the stronger signal I get from North West Channels. The annoying thing is though I can't leave any gaps in ordering my channels!

(For the record, not that your interested, but I've got ITV3 on 8, Men and Motors on 16 and the news channels in the 20's, with BBC News 24 on 24 of course!

The ONDigital boxes allow you to change the channel order by swapping channels around, however this means you can't put something on a channel that isn't there, ie you can't put anything on channel 8 because there isn't one in England which I've always found rather annoying.

But since I haven't done a 'store channels' for five years - I've always done 'add channels' instead - meaning I've now got channels 1-125 (except 8 ), 701-707 and 800-815, which gives me more channel numbers to play with, though it means the bottom end of the EPG is like an ON/ITVDigital graveyard Very Happy

God forbid my good old ONDigital box should ever pack up, do any of the newer boxes allow you to swap channels around in the same way? The current EPG line-up is a mess, and even the new EPG line-up still looks rather disorganised. I personally find it more helpful and neater to keep BBC channels together (ie BBC1, 2, 3, 4 on channels 1,2,3,4 and ITV1, 2, 3 on channels 11, 12, 13 etc).

I have a proper freeview box manufactured by bush. The current line up is horrific. The channels are just random, they are not organised in any way shape or form. For example I thought that E4 would end up on channel 13 and E4+1 on 14. That makes more sense than 14 and 39.

I think most of the clear up makes perfect sense but the General Entertaiment channels are all over the place, surely a further split of Shopping and Music channels for a start.

1-9 for flagship channels, 10-20 for the likes the BBC/ITV/C4 digital family, it's all over the place.

I guess C4's priority is to get a good slot for More4 rather than E4+1!

You could argue that putting +1 channels next to their main channel would actually add to the problem, pushing back some flagship channels even further. It's certainly the case on Sky!

I'm rather dubvious of that list, mainly because of Teletext being moved to channel 100. If I recall teletext has the same rights as the other terestrial channels have for a priority place. However it is possible, and channel 100 would fit in with the teletext numbers starting at 100.

Indeed, Teletext are classed as an 'existing analogue broadcaster' and as such are entitled to 'due prominence' in the EPG. In other words, they can't be forcibly moved from their channel 9 slot. Although it would make sense for them to sell it off, this hasn't been announced.

I also find it odd that the proposed re-organisation essentially just moves the kids channels out of the way and allocates the radio channels 3 digit numbers for no obvious reason.

I doubt this lineup well ever come to fruition.

I think the fact that the reshuffle isn't terribly radical is what gives it a ring of truth. If someone had just made the list up they would have no doubt been tempted to be make more sweeping changes, eg putting the music channels together and shoving the shopping channels to the end; and they wouldn't put in the seemingly random gaps at 30, 31 and 35.

Assuming the list is true it unfortunately means the EPG remains just as disorganised as it is now, but at least it removes the current absurd situation where Toonami finds itself right next to Television X. As for Teletext, presumably they haven't been forced off Channel 9, but on the other hand Channel 100 is just as memorable and so maybe they have at least relented.

The movement of the radio stations to the 700s seems slightly odd, but the station 3C announced some time ago they were moving to channel 724, as did one of the other stations, so this must be correct. And the huge gap between 39 and 69 is clearly just to allow plenty of room for future expansion and avoid any future reshuffles; although I have no doubt the Top Up TV monkeys will quickly fill this space up as they launch more so-called 'channels' that broadcast for just a couple of hours a week!

I've always felt that the plus one channels ought to be a multiple number of hundreds above their originals.

Normal channels on 1 to 99, plus ones on 601 to 699, for instance.

Nice and easy to remember then; if the original's on 27, then the plus one will be on 627.

You could do the same on Sky, but a multiple of thousands above; original on 472, plus one on 6472.

Re: Teletext - just because TT have the rights to Ch 9, doesn't mean they are not willing to move. It's also less of an issue now that TT is available on ITV and C4. (Q: Is it coming to More4 / E4?)

Re: Radio channels - three digit numbers make sense, but the 700's don't. This however has been confirmed by a number of DAB stations.

Re: Childrens channels - once again, the huge gap from 40-69 makes no sense, but this has also been confirmed by Top Up TV who stated Toonami would get a slot in the 70's.

I have rearranged my channels this way:

16 swapped with 39 - QVC swapped with E5
15 swapped with 16 - ABC1 swapped with E5
19 swapped with 49 - UKTVBI swapped with Eurosport

So my EPG reads: 13 More4, 14 E4, 15 E4+1, 16 abc1, 17 UK Gold, 18 Hits, 19 Eurosport.

Plus I have favourites on so just flick past useless rubbish like Ideal World

RE 40-69 - if multiplexes after digi switchoff will all be running at 64QAM thats a possible 8 x 4 more streams - 32 streams. I think they're being left open for them.
