When I had FV and it all changed over to ITVD, the yellow/green/purple menu's and stuff still said onDigital all over them, have they been changed yet? Can they change it?

The OSD can only be changed with a software update, but these boxes are no longer supported.

Incidentally, ITV Digital did announce that they were going to rebrand the OSD. Unfortunately this was just a few short weeks before they went into administration and so the plans were obviously shelved.

The green On Digital OSD will almost certainly be there forever.

Yeah but you make it sound like EVERY Freeview box has these graphics. What I don't understand is why the Freeview group haven't got intouch with some of these new box manufacturers who have their own software. I mean I've seen some of these new boxes in action, the menus are cool and the boxes are fast.

Surely if 'Freeview' worked with a manufacturer they could come to some sort of update agreement.

That's not entirely true - the software is out there somewhere - there have even been screenshots of it. The truth behind the matter is that box manufacturers don't want it released - they want people to upgrade to their newer boxes for more money.

Apparently, Setanta has been given the push from SDN and will not be appearing anymore.

I accept it's through the way they've marketed it, but Freeview is NOT a platform in the way that Sky is and ITV Digital was. Freeview is merely a programme service - they have no involvement in the boxes and the boxes are NOT 'Freeview Boxes', they are DTT Receivers. With that in mind, there will never be a time when they try to impose a common interface amongst all the DTT boxes, Freeview just doesn't go that far. And also with that in mind, there is no need or wish for them to try and remove the On Digital branding - what boxes look like is irrelevant to them.

It's like suggesting that all the terrestrials get together and try to come up with a common OSD for TV sets - it's not going to happen because it's not their place to get involved with the products themselves. Exactly the same rings true for Freeview.

Hi,
I was going to get Freeview but people say (1)There isn't very good choice and (2) there isn't very good reception.
Do you think I should get Freeview or wait untill a good channel appears??? I would love to hear you comments!

While were on the subject, I think there should be:
- UK GOLD+ -it could start a 7pm and could ahow the best of.
- CiTV Channel- believe it or not CiTV have good programmes, they could show classics loke Funhouse, mad for it, etc.
- E4 Lite- I know 'more4' is comming but e4 has (in my opinion) better shows than 4.
- Sky extra- I know this won't happen but I would like it to show 'classic' series like Simpsons, futurama, angel etc. Probably to good for Freeview!

I think there shouldn't be:
-More sports channels- I HATE most sports so this is a huge NO
- ITV Gold- they would probably show cr*p like 'calssic' Heartbeat, Corrie, Emmerdale BUT they may show 2002 Crossroads, in that case YES! Very Happy
-More BBC channels- No more! BBC 3, BBC 4, CBBC, CBEEBIES, BBC NEWS 24 and BBC radio, ALL CRAP (execpt CBBC Channel!!)

That's my opinion! Don't forget the question above!!!!!
LoveTV!! Very Happy

My favourite software has to be my Samsung SIR-U200i, out of my four boxes - Pace DTVA, Daewoo (Novapal), Samsung, Sony IDtv (I know that doesn't count)

The Samsung has a 'next generation' IBM Processor

And I have kindly provded screencaps as well...

Quarter screen for picture; I was watching BBC Parliament so it cannot play it there.

I remember seeing over at Digitalspy that Goodmans (think it was them) was about to launch a DDT receiver that was also capable of receiving digital radio (DAB)

Now if that is true and become available i think i will get one of them - my brother has a DAB radio and having the additional stations in my area is a god send, all we have is Radio 1 and Gemini FM ("Todays best mix" radio station)

that's quite a pointless / stupid question. if you get freeview now, you're going to get the channels now and future channels that will appear. if you're going to get freeview later, you're going to get the channels now and future channels that will appear. it's the same thing either way. reception would be the same, unless you get a good aerial or signal coverage is expanded
