You phone Sky and an almost inaudible Scottish person will come on the line. You give your details including debit card details and then they send you a card which enables you to get all of the free channels on sky.

NB. Only about 5 of the cheapy music channels work. The Hits doesn't work on FreeSat Sad

You get Sky News, News 24, ITV1, 2, 3 and CH4 etc.

Card costs a one off fee of £20.00

www.freesatfromsky.co.uk - I think

Sounds rubbish, if I was you I would buy Sky Value pack.

Doesn't sound like a great service - i wouldn't be surprised as I only came across it by chance, and it doesnt seem like Sky are plugging it at all.

Thanks for the help.

Actually, I find it quite useful. I have Sky+ in my lounge and when it was installed 3 years ago they gave me a free standard digibox as part of the deal. Initially I had that in the bedroom with the same selection of channels as downstaitrs for which Sky charge a flat fee of £10. After the first year or so (and when I wasn't under contract anymore to keep paying for it!) I stopped paying for the extra box. By then, the original Solus cards weren't available anymore so I had to wait until Sky offered the freesat thing. Now I've got FreeSat in the bedroom which is fine for getting terrestrial telly and News and stuff, plus I use it as a source for listening to the radio.

I agree though, that it's a bit rubbish compared to FreeView for the selection of channels you get. I wouldn't really recommend it to someone wanting to use it as their only digital source.

But in comparison to Freeview, don't you get the same channels, but a whole lot more?

Thats a bit of a blow I suppose, with no SSN, but surely with a greater choice there would be more music channels or Sports etc? Or are they all low budget, crappy channels?

It doesn't look too bad, I wouldn't watch 80-90% of the channels, but thats what Sky's for, right?! Very Happy. I just don't get why Sky are being so secretive about Freesat, as I only stumbled across it on the net by chance - surely if they boasted the fact they had more channels, it would be a real competitor to Freeview.

Umm... but all 'Freesat' has is shopping channels and "messages from our Christian friends". Whatever turns you on... Wink

Sky dont promote FreeSat at all for a very good reason. They dont want you to get it. They only really want subscribers. Its only been made available in the hope that if you get FreeSat, one day you will subscribe.
