Completely random but does anyone else agree that the BBC boxes look so much better with rounded edges? Exhibit A

No, I think they look horrible.

It would make so much more sense both for Freeview and Freesat to be concentrating on making this the FTA HD platform.

With a limited choice of HD channels, I can't see it doing too great TBH. Yes, it may appeal to those who can't get Freeview - but that's not too great a number, and secondly a basic Sky package is now very competitive if you're getting it with broadband and home phone - it's basically broadband + Sky for free.

For me, the main selling point would be the potential for more interactive streams than Freeview - so you could get the full BBC Sport service during the Olympics / Wimbledon etc. - and presumably the few services other channels offer too - though it wouldn't surprise me if Big Brother live remains Sky exclusive.

It makes sense, it should be the upgrade for freeview viewers, but more channels will be needed before people start to consider it.

As for Big Brother, I thought that they hadn't done an interactive service for a few years now.

Well I wouldn't call it a "service", but the 24 hour stream has continued to be available on Sky via the red button. I think it's the only thing C4 offer now though.

It's a shame only the BBC and Sky seem to have really stuck with interactive TV - I don't think ITV do much with it now, while one 24/7 stream of BB is nothing compared to BB2-4 where 4 streams were available along with a fairly comprehensive text service.

ISTR a couple of years ago Channel 4 announcing they were scaling back their interactive services as they'd failed to be popular, with the notable exception of Big Brother.

ITV still do a bit - there's a Coronation Street interactive service with video catch-ups, etc. on Sky. I think they might also have the same with Emmerdale.

There's no mention of Sky News on the channel line up, this is still free-to-air on satellite isn't it? So should be recievable by those with a freesat reciever

Not on the EPG, but probably able to manually tune it in.

AIUI Sky News and CNN are both FTA but neither are in the freesat EPG.

I think the Humax box has a freesat and non-freesat mode - the latter allowing all the non-freesat FTA channels to be tuned.

However I don't know about the Alba (aka Goodmans and Grundig) boxes - they may be freesat EPG only (though this may be counter to EU law - which is why Sky Digiboxes have a very rudimentary "Add channels" option)

Sky News and CNN would be good selling points for Freesat, even if it is technically possible, it's not something the average viewer would know about, let alone be able to tune in to.

Good on AJE and Euronews on getting in on it though

Sky probably wouldn't want Sky News to be on the Freesat EPG but I wouldn't be surprised to see CNN appear.

Bearing this in mind, if Sky News can be manually tuned in then so can Sky Three.

Sky Three is encrypted on satellite, so not visible on a Freesat box.
