Guys, I'm thinking of changing from my Sky box to Freesat but I just wondered if anybody knows if I can add channels for my ITV requirements or if I purchase the box in the respective region (using a postcode for that region) and then plug it into my Sky dish, will it retain that region or automatically migrate to the local ITV service?

You type in your postcode as part of the setup and it allocates BBC and ITV regions based on that. You can change the BBC Region if you wish, but not the ITV one for some reason. All of the BBC regions are on the EPG (in the 900s, though not the same numbers as on Sky!) but the ITV regions are only available if you change the mode of the box from Freesat to Manually Tuned. That's all for a Humax box by the way... I would imagine most are similar.

It should work fine as a straight swap for a Sky box as it looks at the same satellites in the same bit of the sky.

Good luck.

Not quite, they are the same transmissions from the same satellites!

The reason is fairly obvious !

Thanks Gents. I currently work in Edinburgh but want to receive Yorkshire, so if I type in my Mother in Laws postcode (Sheffield) that should work?

Hopefully my that should be my final question!

I was wondering about the HD channels on Freesat. Officially, only BBC HD, BBC One HD and ITV1 HD are available,
what third party free to air HD channels can be unofficially received with a Freesat HD box, aside from Luxe TV?

There aren't any non-Freesat FTA HD channels at 28.2E other than Luxury Life TV (which is I believe what Luxe TV is now called?) C4 HD and Five HD are FTV encoded (i.e. encrypted using Sky's encryption system and requiring a Sky card, but not requiring a subscription), and the other HD channels are pay-TV (ITV2-4HD, E4HD etc.)

Why don't you just cancel your Sky sub and go Freesat from Sky, because you'll get a few more FTV channels that you wouldn't get on Freesat: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freesat_from_Sky

If you want HD and don't have a Sky HD box - then Freesat will give you BBC One HD, BBC HD and ITV1 HD - and you won't get those with an SD Freesat from Sky set-up.

Also you have to pay £10/month if you want your Sky+ to record if you have a Freesat from Sky set-up (although the Sky+ sub is included in all Sky subscriptions at no extra charge, you still have to pay for it if you don't subscribe to any Sky content) - whereas if you buy a Freesat+ HD box, you get recording of all channels free of charge. (The minute you stop subscribing to Sky, your Sky+ recording and replay facilities stop - and you can no longer watch programmes you've recorded - whether from FTA, FTV or Pay-TV channels)

True, but the OP never mentioned HD.
