Fred Dinenage and ITV How

Nice to see Jack Hargreaves get a creator credit which I'm not sure happened with How 2.

This year we've had credits "Double or Drop devised by Eammon Andrews", "Take Your Pick devised by Michael Miles" and now "How devised by Jack Hargreaves". I see Nigel Pickard also got credited as a consultant, another alumni from the original series of course.

Weird that the original creators has only started credited now for their work with the new revival, I assume it's now a contractual requirement.

I'd imagine it's more likely they're just nice acknowledgements of well-loved figures, and a nod to the past. I don't think Eammon Andrews, Michael Miles or Jack Hargreaves have been signing any new contracts recently. Wink

The estates of the various creators likely would have a say especially when it comes to royalties. Sometimes it takes years for a creator or co-creator to be acknowledged for their work. For example Bill Finger who co-created Batman with Bob Kane only got credited on any Batman media just five years ago.

It also took exactly 50 years for Delia Derbyshire to get an on-screen credit for her original version of the Doctor Who theme!

At the end of tonight's bulletin, Meridian played some short clips of the very first series of How, with a very young Fred! And, of course, they promoted the new series. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to capture a video of it.

That's lovely. I guess it helps that How has been and gone over the years, but the nods to the past are wonderful and demonstrate how shows don't have to be weighed down by their heritage.

I hope Fred teaches us all 'how' to look as good as him when we reach 78 years old!
