Hidden away on BBC Three tonight was a live re-adaptation of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein where the creator of the Creature, Victor Frankenstein (Andrew Gower) marries his sweetheart, Elizabeth (Lacey Turner).

However, the Creature (David Harewood) has other plans on making the wedding night...

The show was produced by BBC Events and BBC Productions live from Kirkstall Abbey in Leeds and featured a 12,000-strong audience.

The broadcast was interleaved with music from the past couple of years (Black Eyed Peas "I've Got A Feeling" for example).

A "flash-mob"-style dance was featured in the show too, and wedding "guests" (the audience) had to learn the routine.

The show was "presented" by Reggie Yates and featured a so-called "Look North" film crew.

The BBC Press Office listed it as:

Lacey Turner, David Harewood and Andrew Gower star in a spectacular live drama and music event - a contemporary interpretation of Mary Shelley's gothic horror story. Victor Frankenstein is marrying his childhood sweetheart Elizabeth Lavenza, all the while knowing that the creature he created and rejected has vowed to return on his wedding night. 12,000 people will gather at Kirkstall Abbey to share the big day and join the couple in a unique mass flash mob dance.

If you missed it you can catch it again on the BBC iPlayer at http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00z0dn4/Frankensteins_Wedding..._Live_in_Leeds/.

Brilliant television, but why hide it away on BBC Three?

It will be repeated "as live" on BBC Three on Monday at 0030 and 0345 and on Friday at 0305.

Not sure it was "hidden" on BBC3 as such, they've a long history of this sort of thing (the Liverpool Nativity and Manchester Passion, and before that Flashmob The Opera).
