It's not the space at Elstree that's the issue under discussion - it's the fact that SCD and X Factor would end up using different ends of the George Lucas Sound Stage - at the same time.

Not sure what the sound proofing is like to split up the GLS stage. Don't think it's got floor to grid soundproof doors down the middle (unlike, ironically, Fountain Studios)

Aha - did not know that! Consider me corrected!

Has 3Mills been discussed? They've got some fairly large stages and I belive stages 4,5,6&7 can be used together? I don't know if that means that they can become one large studio or just that they have access to each other?

The George Lucas Stages are two separate but adjacent sound stages, not one which is split into two. By their nature sound proofing shouldn't be an issue.

Rumours were circulating that the owners of 3 Mills might be selling up and land sold off earlier this year.
Gone quiet since - so not sure what the state of play is with those studios/sound stages.

Million Pound Drop is the last live show I know to have come from there, and other than the first couple of series of Big Brother I don't think a huge amount of note has in terms of live television has come from there, or indeed entertaiment shows.

Do we know yet what is happening with The Voice - is that staying at Elstree for it's live shows?

If you call 'Gordon Ramsay Cookalong Live' entertainment, then that was done from 3 Mills.

The last live show was ITV's Sound Of Music musical just before last Christmas.

3 Mills is home to MasterChef too, isn't it?

The Voice was made in HQ1 at Media City Salford I thought...?

They like to move around when it comes to studios. I believe the trend has been auditions at Salford, battle roudns at Fountain, live shows at Elstree. Despite it now being an ITV programme and production, the auditions at least remain at Salford.

X Factor is moving to LH2 studios next year. BGT will be the first former-Fountain show to be used in the space.
The Voice live shows will also come from there in March next year. Interesting space and often used to rehearse tours. There are no production facilities there, so everything will have to come from an OB truck.

Here something of note:

Quote:
With the addition of audience seating, LH2 is the perfect studio for filming a special event or indeed a television series. There is plenty of room for Outside Broadcast Trucks. Additionally, on our second floor, there is a further as yet undeveloped area that suits a TV control room with direct access to a gantry and spiral stair case into the studio.

Film and television sets are easily constructed on site, set up and filmed. Lighting is easily rigged from our grid and we have plenty of space for all your cameras and associated equipment.
