ITV drama Footballers' Wives is coming to an end after five series, it has been confirmed.
The programme's demise was mutually agreed by makers Shed Productions and ITV, after the show suffered declining ratings during its latest run.

We're proud that we created one of the most talked about TV shows of recent times, said Shed director Brian Park.

The show has become a hit in the US on BBC America, and a deal to air the show in South America has been reached.

It was one of the best series of its time and caught the mood of the early 21st century, said Nick Elliott, head of ITV drama.

I cant say im surprised - all the best characters have gone or are leaving (Tanya, Jackie, Bruno is in Holby so was unlikely to do another series). I hope they do a one off special or something to tie up the loose ends.

Yes i'll miss it as well, it was good entertainment. I thought series 3 was the worst out of the 5 series, series 4 and 5 were good because of Bruno being in them.

Here is the article about Dream Team

From BBC News

Final whistle for TV's Dream Team

The final series of Dream Team will begin in the autumn
Sky One's long-running football drama Dream Team has been cancelled after 10 years on TV screens.
A spokesman for Sky One said the 10th series of the drama about Harchester United football club - which is due to go into production - would be the last.

The final series will be broadcast on Sky One later this year.

The series has helped launch the careers of many young actors, including Adam Garcia and EastEnders star Kara Tointon, who plays Dawn Swann.

'Natural end'

It has also featured faces from the world of sport in cameo roles, including former manager Ron Atkinson and footballers Matt Le Tissier, Les Ferdinand and Dwight Yorke.

Richard Woolfe, director of programming at Sky One said: "We're going to go out with a bang.

"We're extremely proud of this series and want it to finish on a high, but like all good things, the series has come to a natural end."

Jane Hewland, managing director of Hewland International, which produces the series, said: "We have had a wonderful ride - but we too think it is over, we have had a ball and learnt so much."

The current ninth series of 31 episodes will run until this May.

Production of the 10th series begins in July and will air this autumn on Sky One.

I have to say the last couple of weeks of Dream Team have been excellent so its a shame its ending. Although maybe its better to go out on a high?

So does that mean the end for Extra Time as well?

Hopefully. Extra Time has dragged on a bit too far now anyway. It should have stopped when the normal series ended.

It'll be nice to find out the result of the last proper season's cliffhanger, though - maybe in a one-off special?
