Digital spy reports on a usa remake of only fools and horses.... I can hear dell now reading the article saying" ... I cant watch ohh what a bunch of plonkers "
Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley, writers and producers of Happy Endings and Scrubs, are said to be adapting the classic sitcom for ABC.
I think a comment posted on that video sums up the flaws in this remake idea perfectly :
Quote:
Fools & Horses is based aound the English working class ability to laugh & joke during tough times and in adversity, it doesn't translate to the US because the culture is different, therefore the humour doesn't work. English comedy is usually subtle and ironic, whereas American comedy is more obvious and sarcastic.

Remember the last two working class comedy that work:

Exactly. This is a ridiculous idea. You only have to look at how Keeping Up Appearances was so successful in the states despite it being bloody awful to show how different it is.

Not to mention remaking OFAH anywhere is a bad idea, the core idea is pretty much reliant on the atmosphere of 80's Britain and much like Steptoe & Son and Til' Death Do Us Part are made specifically for that time and place and wouldn't work outside of it.
Add it to the list of failed US adaptations of UK comedy series. Nothing new here, move along.

But
Steptoe and Son
(
Sanford and Son
) and
Til' Death Do Us Part
(
All in the Family
) were both
very
sucessful as American remakes.
