Weakest Link is hot at Pinewood Studios, Stage J. It has the capacity to hold an auidence but I doubt there's any way for sure to know that they used it unless the credits mention it.

It was gonna be WWTBAM but ITV ****
ed it up
'ITV you plonker!'
I liked it, and we have 2 more to look forward to in 2002...
Also the writer and creator has expressed a wish to write more episodes to continue the series.

I'm sure it was - if it wasnt at pinewood maybe they borrowed the set or something as they were filming right up until very recently and it would have been hard to design and build a new set in time. Who would go to all the trouble of making a set that looks the spitting image of the Weakest Link one anyway?!
Hmm, not sure about the episode really. Not a patch IMO on the 'final' 3 but nevertheless, very good.
As to the Goldrush - It would have been so much better if it had been WWTBAM. Funny to hear the 'Shot in the Dark' and 'SOS' options. Obviously they changed it just enough not to be sued by WWTBAM's lawyers http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I think it was very good. Beforehand I was concerned this was going to an 'episode too far', but it was great to see them back in the flat like the old days, and great that the theme tune and 20 year old opening titles were all kept (almost) the same, albeit cropped to 16:9.
Interestingly, UK Gold last night showed the 1981 Christmas special, which had the 'original' theme tune on it - not the one we know and love. All the other first series episodes must have had the more familiar theme tune re-edited onto them for repeat showings, but they missed this one episode...

well, i thought it was a rubbish episode - how dull and boring!
I was waiting to see that for ages - i'm sooo dissapointed!
Didn't like the episode that much, but it got better towards the end (I was only half concentrating). Gold Rush was the best bit IMHO. ITV didn't let them do Millionaire because they wanted the right to show one repeat of the show. The BBC refused, stating they couldn't let licence-fee money go towards a show that could be shown on a commercial channel. I think ITV's request was perfectly reasonable actually.

Yes I was surprised to see the old titles, and it worked well even with BBC logo and new pictures on the 'David Jason' and 'Nicholas Lyndhurst' bits,

Yes on the 1991 video release of the first 3 episodes it's a different theme tune. Different style credits too, rather than the 'long bit of paper scrolling up' classic ones.

It's just a shame really that Buster Merryfield isn't still around .. mind you they did the right thing by sending him the same way as Leonard Pearce (Grandad) - giving him a funeral and all.
Also Mike (who was 'doing porridge!) - such a shame (sorry I can't remember his actor's name) couldn't be here to make the episode. Nice to see a dedication at the end though.
I thought it was good, certainly didn't disappoint after all the expectaitions.. I was getting scared, like Asa said, like it might be an 'episode too far'.
It's just a shame that they couldn't sort the Millionaire deal out, because I thought that Goldrush did seem painfully contrived.. still, it was very last minuite. Bet Jonathan Ross jumped at the chance of appearing in it.
But anyway, overall, it wasn't bad and there plenty of great moments (particular when Trigger was involved!)
And also, I think everyone knew BBC 1 was gonna 'win' this Christmas for quite a while.. did ITV1 actually even bother?
I really enjoyed it. Best ting they've shown all year.

Yes I liked the way they kept the opening titles but the way they were cropped to 16;9 looked awful. The credits used as well, were the same style as used in the 'last ever' episodes in 1996.

UK gold started from the beginning around september and they showed the first few episodes with the original music over the titles and credits. Hopefully this means that when UK Gold get round to going back to the begginning of EastEnders they will show the proper titles and credits, unlike BBC1 who annoyingly edit in the 1994 ones.
Also, was anyone annoyed by the constant switching between videotape and film, especially when Del was on goldrush? It would've made sense in the 80s when video equipment was too costly and risky to carry about to locations, but its the 21st century for gods sake! It looked awful.
