Hmm, I heard UKTV's Transmission was switching over to Red Bee, I didn't know the rest of Flextech was switching over.
UKTV tx has been handled by BBC Broadcast/Red Bee for quite some time - and was based in TV Centre until a year or two ago.

Indeed, UKTV has never been played out by anyone else. Prior to the formation of UKTV; UK Gold came from Molinaire and before that Thames TV.

The Flextech channels are moving over to Red Bee from Ascent Media facility which is also the home of Channel 5. This used to be called LPC and before that Pearson. In the case of Living TV it was originally played out by Thames

was nbc superchannel played out from thames too? im sure i saw a thames vt clock before the afternoon news from itn

A bigger issue must be UKTV's back catalogue. Their library is full of re-versioned copies of BBC programmes, all in 14:9/4:3. To go back to the master copies (from the BBC) and re-edit everything is a heck of a job

Oh well, the sooner they get started...

Doesn't sound right to me, the technology isn't exactly rare the BBC channels have been doing widescreen through the same infrastructure for 8 years now
It did seem odd to me too - though this was according to someone from Siemens...

Likewise with Flextech - their new commissions, and many of their acquisitions are 16:9, but these are edited to 14:9 in compliance. Seems odd, given that playout can handle widescreen material and ARCing on the fly (eg with commercials)

Why why why did'nt I record the Bob & Margaret episodes when they showed them Crying or Very sad Only reason I havn't deleted this white elephant channel from my box is case they ever show em again.

I wouldn't have thought the commercials would be ARC'd on the fly. They'll be cached onto the playout server as 14:9 - thus only ARCing them once

Don't think so, but Financial Times TV came from Teddington (Pearson owned both the FT and Thames at the time) - this was on CNBC and I presume it's predessor NBC Superchannel

Speaking of this, it's not completely uncommon to see the old UK Gold break slides on some of the programmes. Particularly the stuff that's on UKTV Drama, I flicked past something the other day to see the UKTV Drama sting followed by an old UK Gold slide.

I can also remember watching an early Casualty episode not long ago and the old UK Gold slide appeared for five seconds without there even being a break! other times they'll edit them out.

I understand re-editing everything would be a mamoth task but you would think they'd be a bit more careful about letting these things slip onto air, most of the times they manage to cut them out successfully.
