...apparently have a new logo:

Also, as of this week, all of their channels (except Player) are now being broadcast by Red Bee at the Broadcast Centre.

Hmm, I heard UKTV's Transmission was switching over to Red Bee, I didn't know the rest of Flextech was switching over.

But it explains why the 14:9 Problem on Challenge has finally been fixed, it doesn't look silly having a massive black bar at the top of the screen only anymore.

UKTV tx has been handled by BBC Broadcast/Red Bee for quite some time - and was based in TV Centre until a year or two ago.

Dumb logo or not, they're providing Adult Swim so I'm not complaining.

Does this mean a move to 16:9 on UKTV now? Unless they've already converted over of couse.

The main UKTV channels have been in the Broadcast Centre for some time and have not been 16:9.

...apart from UKTV G2, who are showing World Cup matches in 16:9, and are testing out other bits of material here and there.

Someone told me last week that it's partly to do with the coders in the Siemens multiplexing area at TV Centre, though I've still not been able to get a straight answer out of anyone on this.

Indeed, UKTV has never been played out by anyone else. Prior to the formation of UKTV; UK Gold came from Molinaire and before that Thames TV.

The Flextech channels are moving over to Red Bee from Ascent Media facility which is also the home of Channel 5. This used to be called LPC and before that Pearson. In the case of Living TV it was originally played out by Thames

Doesn't sound right to me, the technology isn't exactly rare the BBC channels have been doing widescreen through the same infrastructure for 8 years now

A bigger issue must be UKTV's back catalogue. Their library is full of re-versioned copies of BBC programmes, all in 14:9/4:3. To go back to the master copies (from the BBC) and re-edit everything is a heck of a job
