God it's worse than I thought. Aimed at gay viewers? I like Green Day, will my taste be catered for? Or is it just aimed at all the camp mincers like Sput?
What I don't get is the idea of "gay" music. Is there such a thing? I'm sure gay people have just as varied music tastes as everyone else. Lumping gays in with liking Kylie and Right Said Fred just seems to me like stereotyping, like presuming everone who likes hip-hop is a chav or everyone who listens to grunge dresses in black and self harms.

If you go to your average gay club, you'll get a lot of Kylie, Britney, Dance tunes etc. It's only on bigger gay scenes that they have venues that cater for alternative music tastes.
So yes, overall i'd say as far as gay clubbers go, the stuff on Flaunt reflects what you get in most gay clubs.
There's lots of things out there that are aimed at a specific audience. Not all women like Women's Own... etc
For instance, a lot of people who are into grunge are emos, so it makes perfect sense to market that sort of music to them. You could call it stereotyping. I'd call it good business sense.
I wish the Stonewall types would stop the "oh, woe is me, i'm gay, i'm being stereotyped again! Exploiting the pink pound... blah blah". Just get on with life and be happy that a large network has decided to risk the idea of a gay channel. I don't think it could've happened in the recent past, we're lucky things are moving on.
There is nothing as patronising as being told what I like because I am gay!
Yes I like dance music but propper dance, not just Kilie and steps played a little bit faster. I know lots of gay men who are into rock and indi stuff... I dont see why we should have things forced down our throat (so to speak) that have been chosen by others. God forbid a gay man is ever seen as an individual.
Why people feel the need to do anyhting special for gay people on TV or radio I dont quite understand. Are we incapable of making up our own mind without haveing to be told "Hey your gay so you must like that, how els would you ever know what to watch or listen to"
there are a few exceptions to this rule.. Gay bars/clubs being one.

I am very much not a "Stonewall type" but I do have a problem with people assuming that because I'm gay I worship at the feet of Kylie and Madonna. I don't, and I find that attitude no less insulting than someone assuming I behave like Mr Humpries from Are You Being Served?.
Being gay means you fancy someone of the same sex as yourself. Nothing more can be assumed.
Why should I be "happy" that a "large network has decided to risk the idea of a gay channel"?

How about a channel for ginger people?
Marksi I agree with you completely.
Whataday how about I launch a channel dedicated to you and you alone however I decide what you are going to watch and the music you listen to - I wonder how interested you would be in that!

want to reply to this point specifically.
erm no. what you will find is its what people think they play in gay clubs - How many gay clubs (proper clubs now just just drag bars as they are a different section of the community) have you been in?
Don't have sky anymore but that the only real decent music channel left all decent music channels that start up are doomed to fail it's just a matter of time before thats gone. Well there's always Kerrang but too much 'hard metal' on there no place for us into 'indie'
Oh come on this argument is ridiculous. We all know that gay people will have different tastes in music. It's just aimed at them. It's similar to something like You are What You Eat or the Heaven or Loose Women... Aimed at women but there will be some men who watch it! A target audience is never ever going to be a perfect fit...so chill.
Has anyone noticed lately (or back then) Flaunt, Channel U and other neighbouring channels have the same format where they share the same ECP?
Don't know why but regularly both channels would have the screen reduced so below there would be a "forum" complete with numbers, track requests and on the side would be a hotline. If lesser-spotted music channels want to distinguish themselves from other channels then why do they do this?
