Silly, but that's the reality of most EPG line ups.
Something I suggested over at Digital Spy some time ago was that 100-159 was reserved for the terrestrial broadcasts, with something like:
111-114: BBC1-BBC4
(121-124: Irish TV / S4C)
131-134: ITV1-ITV4
140: C4 142: More4 144: E4
150: Five
Then say:
152: Five 2, 153: Five 3
It means the traditional channels vacating the 101-105 slot, but I think the downside of losing these slots would be outweighed by the advantage of having the families of channels grouped together.
It could work like this.
100-106: B.B.C.1., B.B.C.2., C.3., C.4., C.5., SIXTV.
110-119: B.B.C.3., B.B.C.4., BBC Parliament etc.
120-129: Irish channels / S.4.C.
130-139: Local Channel 3. Station's multiplex.
140-149: Channel 4. Channels
150-159: Channel 5. Channels.
MY IDEA FOR CHANNEL FIVE.
C.5.: Flagship channel.
Five.2: Repeats of shows.
Five.3.: Films / Motion Pictures.
Live@Five (made up channel by me): Live twenty-four-hour coverage of reality television show running.
Five.For: Programmes about tips, programmes, that give you consumer information. Services. Car purchase information immediately after Fifth Gear. Gadget information after Gadget Show. D.O.G. captions include 'Five.For.Cars', 'Five.For.Gadgets', 'Five.For.You'.
5:5 / Five.5: +1 channel for C.5., or follow-up shows, next episodes.

why is it i dont get 5 as i live on the derry border around 10 miles away in donegal and i get great recption on bb1/bbc2/itv/c4 and i dont get 5 or channel9(local derry station that mostly shows sky news). the funny thing is that I get terrible reception on RTE1/RTE2/TV3/TG4 can anyone help me

That's the problem with unlimited DTV channels, while here in Aussieland we don't have enough!

It would make much more sense if they went with the parent company name, and thus bring it into lines with its sister stations across europe.
Five.1 becomes rtl1
Five.2 becomes rtl2
Five.3 becomes rtl3
This does make it alot easier to recognise the channels than using five.1 etc...
