Five.2 now Five.3

Pretty lame names if you ask me but it sounds like this could be good for presentation for the channels.

Yeah I'm not too sure about the names either....
although most other channels do use their broadcaster name (i.e. BBC, ITV, SKY) followed by a number.. so perhaps it is acceptable.

I hope that Five.3 will be a movie channel, i often like the films they have on 5 on Wednesdays.... which reminds me, best check the tv guide.

LATER EDIT: Turns out its Street Fighter.... starring Jean-Clause VanDamme, Kylie Minogue and Ming-Na.... think i might give it a go

five will rename five.1 now probably.

As long as they announce it as five point 2

Your watching five point 1 - over on point 2 now is the Monday film then at ten over on point 3 is soft porn!

if you build up the brand enough you would be able to not say the five part..

I still say they're working titles. What the hell would they do for a web address? five.tv/five.3 isn't going to work now is it!

They could buy the domain 2.tv and 3.tv so they could have a subdomain as five.2.tv and five.3.tv.

Am I the only person who thinks few people will care? Honestly, few enough people watch five itself.

Time for some common sense:

"five" won't rebrand "five.1" - it be stupid and doesn't make any sense in the way it did for ITV.

"five.2" and "five.3" will just be known as "five 2" and "five 3" - can you really imagine them emphasising the point - it's just their as it'll make the logos look slightly better. Remember in this case Five is a brand, not a number.

And I expect five.2 and five.3 may just be working titles - the names could change before the channels make it to air.

I reckon for a channel named after the channel number and then launching multiple channels is a bit silly, but then again, digital is overtaking the world of TV.

Speaking of which, I can't think of an appropriate EPG number for that, i mean 104 for Channel 4 is suitable, but the likes of 213 (example) for Five.2 seems a bit silly. I know it's a pretty silly thing to mention, but think about it.

Silly, but that's the reality of most EPG line ups.

Something I suggested over at Digital Spy some time ago was that 100-159 was reserved for the terrestrial broadcasts, with something like:

111-114: BBC1-BBC4

(121-124: Irish TV / S4C)

131-134: ITV1-ITV4

140: C4 142: More4 144: E4

150: Five

Then say:
152: Five 2, 153: Five 3

It means the traditional channels vacating the 101-105 slot, but I think the downside of losing these slots would be outweighed by the advantage of having the families of channels grouped together.

I'm sure all broadcasters except the BBC would be against that. You'll never get ITV1/Ch4/Five giving up 103-105
