Has this definately been confirmed then? It's not reported at all on Digital Spy or MediaGuardian.

Saying that though, Crown Castle didn't confirm E4+1 had won it's slot until about a month after it began broadcasting!

The losers shouldn't be too disapointed though - a new slot on Mux C should be available soon. It's just they auction them off individually to get the best prices.

How about five TOO?

...Perhaps a little too cheesy.

Funny you should say that - Cartoon Network's new channel is called Cartoon Network Too.

Why don't they just call it Six? It would give them an advantage as it would look like they own two main channels. I've always thought that LivingTV or Sky1 have missed a trick by not rebranding as Channel 6.

The Ofcom licence for the name "Channel 6" belongs to Baily Television, and so cannot be used by anyone else (unlesss they buy it of course, at some ridiculously inflated price Confused ).

Interestingly, five have bought the licence for ONrequest, presumably from the ITVDigital liquidators, and it is noted as being a on-demand film service.

Sorry guys, slightly mis-read mromega's original post in the Freeview slot discussion thread, Five have been awarded the licence for their new channel, but as has been said, they are widely expected to be awarded the slot.

May be five could rename to RTL 1 and the 2rd channel form five would be RTL 2.

I doubt whether that would be suitable, as RTL2 already exists in Europe (Luxembourg) and would cause confusion.

As I said in the DS forum, I reakon it should be called Five Squared (but it would be a little 2 of course!). They've then got the edge to other broadcasters who simply use a letter or a normal number! Very Happy

If they were to launch another channel, it could be called Five Cubed etc!

Intresting Idea, Five² ,Five³
I think EPG's will have a bit of trouble with symbols like that and would end up calling it Five2 or Five3

How about refive ? As in 'revive', something suitable if they do end up going down the ITV2 route of pleasing middle-aged women!
