This is already mentioned in the thread about the bidding for the new Freeview slot, but for those that may miss it, Five is
widely expected
to be awarded the slot and are planning to launch their first digital channel that will be called
Five.2
It seems like a weird name, but i actually think it sounds quite cool - alot better than 'UK TV G2+1' for example...
Why don't they just call it Six? It would give them an advantage as it would look like they own two main channels. I've always thought that LivingTV or Sky1 have missed a trick by not rebranding as Channel 6.

A fair point actually, maybe they want to just keep the 'five' brand so they can build up their image - saying that though if they ever launch a kids channel it will probably be called 'Milkshake!'...
The name Five.2 means that they will have to retain the logo as a word rather than a number in the future as well, otherwise it will look like it's called Fifty-Two!
Sounds interesting. Five.2, weird...but intriguing! The only thing is how much can they actually put on that channel? It's not like channel five is busting at the seams with popular programmes. Apart from CSI (which livingtv has the rights too...as well as charmed) I can't see what they might screen?
The Milkshake brand is strong, and will definitely be strong contender against the Cbeebies. I look forward to seeing it all materialise.
When does
Five.2
launch and will it be on Freeview? I always wondered if they would launch another channel for example the BBC have BBC3 and BBC4... etc, ITV1 have ITV2, ITV3 and now ITV4 and Channel 4 have E4 and now More 4.
i'm all for channels having digital strategies, but Five currently being the home of second-rate Channel 4 rip-offs and US cable TV documentaries, probably means I'll give this one a miss.

Not quite right, Channel 5 have been awarded a broadcasting license for the new channel but there has been no announcement yet on who has actually won the slot, I think its widely expected though that they will get it but you never know I suppose.

Can you please state where it says that Five have been awarded the Freeview space?
