I do blearily remember it - nice, bright BBC2 ident leading into The Simpsons and then Kebab leading into Robot Wars , sun streaming in through the windows...

That said, I didn't like The Simpsons that much.

And on C5 we got a man in a swimming pool leading into the Terminator with boxing gloves.

As opposed to Eggheads and Masterchef! Wink

A whole other topic, but BBC2's cult/teen strand from 6pm is much missed and didn't deserve the boot in favour of primetime airings of daytime fodder.

I have an old tape somewhere, from the summer, in 2001 I think. With Woodpecker leading into the first episode of the simpsons, Car into the second episode, and Fly zapper into robot wars.

Love that you can't remember where the tape is or what year it's from - but you're pretty sure over what ident introduced each programme! Laughing Cool

Yes. I found it in my attic a few months ago, watched it about 7 times, and I've lost it again now:P

I watch Home and Away, Prison Break and Grey's Anatomy on Five. All imported series so nothing British.

Well, Home and Away is the only thing I watch - and I watch that on Five Life.

Talking of which, their digital channels have also proved pretty pointless too!

Yeah, more pointless crap filling up freeview and sky. Something makes me think they just made sister channels because everyone else has Sad

I agree that the digital channels have proved to be disappointing. I hardly watch anything on Five Life, and nothing at all on Five US.

I sometimes watch H&A on Five Life or Five itself, it depends.

Hmm....time for a positive opinion.

What does Five provide that no-one else does?

Live, free-to-air American sport - what's the betting they get live MLS rights for FiveUS when Beckham starts playing over there?
Award winning American drama (House, Prison Break, Greys Anatomy)
Daily ELLEN DE GENERES Smile

I hardly think that it was Five's fault Robot Wars died - the format had already been ruined by the production company during its BBC2 run and it was already on its way when they offloaded it.

Bad points in my eyes are obviously Quiz Call, and the fact that I've seen the same eps of Pimp My Ride over and over again - but then I've seen the same eps of Friends on E4, Simpsons on C4, Open All Hours on BBC2 etc...

Agreed it was much better at the start - but then it did come in on the end part of Cool Britannia and the optimistic nineties. Anyone remember 5's Company? 100%? Night Fever?

They were, in the words of Peter Kay, crap but good.

I have Freeview in my bedroom - for a Freeview user without any other services, I think Five US is rather good. Joey is a nice sitcom to have access to, Pimp My Ride adds a hint of free MTV to the package, and Whose Line, well... I love Whose Line. Shame it's only Mondays and Tuesdays.
