Five is Ten (technically)

Record ratings for 10th birthday (record low that is!) (March 2007)

Didn't want to hijack the BBC Four thread, but anyone know if Five are doing anything to mark the 10th birthday of the channel?

Although of course technically "five" has only been around half as long as it was "Channel 5" to start with - and for me it's never quite been the same since!

Yes, C5 used to show alot of crap - but it was crap that people talked about. Now, all they seem to show is CSI and Prison Break and though probably more credible as Five, the station seems to have lost it's edge.

This is particularly true of it's flagship news service - 5 News at launch was radically different to all the other news services at the time and has been much immitated since - but has now turned into probably one of the most traditional type of news bulletins with Kirsty Young sitting down even more than Huw Edwards on the 10pm News.

Also, the loss of the Five News updates from most of the schedule was a real shame - I think they only air at 8pm and 9pm now, when in early years they really did air virtually every hour from 8am through to midnight.

So ten years on, what do you think of Five?

I never really watched five much up until i started watching Home and Away regular last year.

I did however watch Five News before that years back so to speak. I liked it, it did stand out, it was all about "fast"

Everything 'Five' touches turns to dust. There is nothing on Five worth watching. It's just not a worthy channel. Nobody watches it. Apart from the odd American drama, there is nothing hard-hitting on Five. They should close down and give their few good shows to channel 4. I doubt that Five would show their programmes from a year ago, the TV standards committee wouldn't allow it.

It will be interesting to see what happens after DSO. Five will definitely have to up its game if it is going to survive.

I honestly can not remember the last time I watched Five-I probably watched it more when it was C5 but when I say more I mean once or twice a year. It just seemed to have character when it was C5 but post-rebrand it seems to have lost what little spark it had.

But anyway, enough doom and gloom: Happy Birthday Channel...sorry...'Five'.

Just look what they did to 'Robot Wars' Sad That was the best schedule ever! Friday evenings, 6:00 pm, double bill of The Simpsons, then Robot Wars. Then Simpsons went to Channel 4 and Robot Wars had one series on Five. *Wipes tear away from eye* Happy days Crying or Very sad

Five News will be having a week of features to mark the birthday. Promotions are running after most news programmes.

It's barely ever viewed in this household nowadays. I think I watched it more back when it was Channel 5, and I prefer it being branded as such, rather than the current 'five'.

These days I don't even bother to touch Channel 5 (oops, sorry, f|ve) with a bargepole because it's utter rubbish and always has been. Occasionally there was something good, but then it just disappeared. Robot Wars would have carried on for longer if it remained on the BBC, but C5 mucked it up.

By sticking commercial breaks into it and introducing a rather boring house robot, Cassius Chrome. It was intended for comic purposes. It failed.
