Has anyone else not though of the idea? C5 of course could MOVE BB to later in the year? even running it over November - February?

As stupid as 90% of applicants are, I think most of them would object to being in a house full of strangers on live TV over Christmas time.

it would give it a new twist... well

People are forgetting that BB hasn't turned a profit for quite a few years, even with 2-3m viewers on C4.

C5 would not only have to get more viewers than they have ever had before, but also negotiate a much lower price for the programme with Endemol, who also want to turn a profit.

Many people are of the feeling that the BB concept has run its course, and any broadcaster would be flogging a dead horse, even for a couple of years. Some countries dropped the programme after fewer series than we have already had from C4.

Does Desmond's C5 really want to be known as the graveyard for other channels' programmes?

In other news today, C5 are apparently chasing Katie Price: a person will no discernable talent whatsoever. Perhaps their intention is to return to more than just the logo/ident from 1997. Confused

Bosses from C4 at the MG Festival have said that it was still a good show for them and making money, they also said they are taking a very big risk dropping it. It still dominates C4's Top 10, although its ratings are down on what they were years ago, they are still top, yet they don't have any continuing breakthrough shows which are getting ratings like it gets, even if it may look small in comparison to other channels.

I can see why Desmond wants to buy it, and frankly why not. It seems only CSI and Hotel Inspector can get 2million plus, so why not get a show which could easily get 2mil each night. Even 1.5million would be better than most of the offerings that they serve up.

Well I still enjoy it and think channel 5 should take it on, make it fresh and new!!

I find it odd that I don't recall 'Five' doing this sort of thing a lot.
I'm pretty sure the got Robot Wars when they were 'Channel Five'.
If so, why the hell does Richard Desmond want to revert Channel Five to it's dumb late 90's style of doing things, buying shows and (possibly) dropping them?

Perhaps Desmond is less concerned with the loss-making FTA stuff and has his eye on the ability to broadcast pay-porn through the night to the nation via DTT.

Just a thought.

His actions so far don't seem to match the lofty ambitions he announced from the steps of his new acquisition; so I'm beginning to think that you are right, Gavin!

Everyone always does, in the end.

To be perfectly honest though, the majority of people on here were going to knock whatever Channel 5 did after the buyout because of previous business decisions.

In my opinion, Big Brother will be good for Five. It's got a loyal fanbase, they can fill up a lot of Fiver with live feed and a BBLB show, and it's still popular with printed and online media.
