Seems to be a story that will gather pace soon so a separate thread seems deserved

Richard Desmond in talks to buy Big Brother for Channel 5

Daily Star owner understood to be negotiating with producer Endemol to move Big Brother after Channel 4 deal ends next month

Richard Desmond is in talks to take Big Brother to Channel 5 next year.

The show's run on Channel 4 is to end next month, with last night's Big Brother 11 final to be followed by a two and a half weeks of Ultimate Big Brother to find the most popular housemate from the past 10 years.

Talks are now said to be in progress between Channel 5 and Big Brother producer Endemol UK.

On one hand, nooooooooooooooooooooooooo......

On the other, I rarely watch Channel 5 so it's probably not going to get in my way, unlike when it's on C4 / E4 all night long.

This 'could' work for Big Brother... audience figures don't have to be as impressive, and the channel will be more forgiving with how strict Big Brother has to be. Since the Shilpa Shetty incident Channel 4 have had their tail between their legs.

Ditto that. Seem to have the knack of picking up other channel's leftovers and then dropping them straight away.

But at the end of the day, it's still a commercial venture. If it doesn't bring money in, it'll get dropped.
Surprised Five are going for this, after poaching Robot Wars.

Sky One are good at that too

Do you really think that any of the honchos from Northern & Shell know what Robot Wars is, let alone that Channel 5 once broadcast it? (I didn't until I read this thread!). There's probably been several changes in management since whenever it happened.

As for why, a big part of it is to exploit the synergies that the company will have between it's TV station and publishing arm. You can be sure that both the Star and OK magazine will use Big Brother for a lot of their content in the summer, even more than now.

IF BB get Five even 2millions viewers it will be getting more viewers, plus it's a very easy way to fill up the listings

There is of course the risk of a backlash from the press. If N&S bought The Sun (as discussed recently) it would be a much less risky option.

I love Big Brother as some know, but I'd have liked it to have been rested a few years the brought back. Channel 4 are giving it a big send off next Friday, the viewers may do the same - the end for them.

That said, we could be sitting here this time next year with Channel 5 posting its best prime time shares in years Razz

Has anyone else not though of the idea? C5 of course could MOVE BB to later in the year? even running it over November - February?

As stupid as 90% of applicants are, I think most of them would object to being in a house full of strangers on live TV over Christmas time.
