The only things worth watching on Five for me are The Gadget Show and the US imports. It needs some more appointment to view shows. I wouldn't rule out Big Brother turning up on the channel.
Yep - though The Gadget show is not what it once was IMHO - it is no longer a Series Link on our Sky+... The Paul Merton travel stuff IS very good though - it really sticks out like a sore thumb in the rest of Five's schedule.
if it was me in charge of the schedule I would do this
5pm
- Five News - keep it with sky and main studio and have Natasha M-T and Matt F
530 -
Neighbours
6pm
- Home and Away
630 :
- Five and Freidns -Topical News and features show in this morningy sort of studio unlike live at studio five have Ben Shepard and Isla Traquir present with guests and reports from fives reporters Polly Whitehouse presents the news headlines on the half hour .
730
Zoo Days
8PM
M- Fifth Gear
T - CSI (New) jus to keep fives current audince happy
W- Paul Merton travel stuff
T- Some kind of cooking show
F- Police intercepters/ Youre niked

Anyting remotely like Live form Studio Five will not work in that slot. It would just get regarded as being a LFSF revamp and its unlikely any non-LFSF viewers would even contemplate watching it. LFSF has trashed any hope Five has of doing a more light hearted early evening current affiars/entertainment show IMO
As somebody who watched the 5pm bulletin daily under ITN - 6 years ago I'd have said that Five News was a vastly underrated bulletin and I'd protest its departure. Sky News have effectively turned that right around and I'd say it's now completely dispensable.
The 2008 revamp was very good IMO. The 5pm show covered all of the days stories, in depth if needed. Since then the quality seems to have declined a bit, and some important stories often get overlooked. But it's still an OK bulletin.
It would indeed be very hard to called the 5pm bulletin essential, but it is nice to have
The 6.30pm slot has always been awkward since they dropped Family Affairs - and kind of doesn't help that the first look Home and Away does so well on Fiver too. It's not like Hollyoaks where C4 News and the E4 First Look have a completely different target audience.
Really don't see why Desmond wishes to rebrand it "Channel Five" seemingly just for the sake of it.

Well in truth that is what everyone calls it, I doubt few would refer to it as Five in general conversation.
CAs referred to the channel as 'five' in its early days, despite it officially being called 'Channel 5,' in a similar way Channel 4 CAs called it 'four' and still do most of the time. I think it'd be worth rebranding back to Channel 5 as for us pres nerds, we'd subconsiously know it's right to call it that, and it's what it was known as in the first place. I know countless people who still call G.O.L.D. 'UK Gold'.
That's why they gave up and call it GOLD now. Even so people still call it
UK
Gold.
I think Gold was always what they wanted to call it, but I thought they weren't allowed to call it this originally because of trademark issues with Gold Radio, and they must have since come to some sort of arrangement with them.
I think these are very exciting times for the channel. Although I dont think Home and Away at 6.30 would work though going ahead Hollyoaks - same audience and all that!!
Channel Five's schedule fits around all the other terrestrial tv channels, not the other way round...hence art programmes/news/wildlife shows throughout the years have been put up against the soaps at 7.30 as a loss maker...no point putting CSI or any of other big shows up against them because the audience simply wouldn't change over.
In my opinion LFSF has got a lot better since the early days, but not sure what it can do to attract its audience...again its up against Hollyoaks which is driven towards the same audience again.
Just heard Five's CA refer to the channel as "Channel 5". That didn't take long, did it?
I was quite surprised too when I heard this earlier, although the promos are still Five, but as said all the idents/announcers refer to it as Channel 5.
