Yet back in the 1980s ITV/Ch4 was full of US Programmes

The BBC showed some also, but then there were only four channels going for the big audiences. That's the problem for Five, it fails to stand out against so many other channels out there.

they way to stand out is to offer programmes a lot of people watch and whether you like it or not a repeat of csi which the core of fives audience has seen is not going to beat a talent show or drama on bbc or itv it needs a complete overhaul and only show new episodes in primetime or show them on five usa.

I'd be tempted to reinstate a couple of the original ideas of Five. I'd certainly like to see the hourly news updates back - now I think they only have the 10-minute lunch update, the 5pm bulletin and possibly one later in the evening. I certainly think that fulfils their news quota in a better way than Live from Studio Five ever could!

I'd also be tempted to reinstate the nightly films - but at 10pm rather than 9pm, with any US drama playing at 10pm accommodated somewhere in a 9pm slot.

The only things worth watching on Five for me are The Gadget Show and the US imports. It needs some more appointment to view shows. I wouldn't rule out Big Brother turning up on the channel.

most of those hourly news updates are still there.

I think it would be better if Ofcom allowed Channel 5 to drop all news and instead concentrate on other PSB commitments. More children's programmes and/or more UK programmes maybe. We really don't need Channel 5 providing 'news', do we?

The evening ones yes, but IIRC there used to be regular daytime bulletins too

While I suspect it maybe an Ofcom requirement, not really sure there is much point keeping the current 'token' lunchtime bulletin

As somebody who watched the 5pm bulletin daily under ITN - 6 years ago I'd have said that Five News was a vastly underrated bulletin and I'd protest its departure. Sky News have effectively turned that right around and I'd say it's now completely dispensable. I don't think anything futher really needs to be said about Live from Studio Five; it is an absolute joke that it is considered 'news output'.

I think Five's childrens output could quite easily be improved, but I doubt this is on Richard's radar somehow. I'd like to know what Dawn Airey's opinion on the matter is, being a controller of CITV when that was something to be proud of!

I do think before Neighbours came along there was a chance there for Five to expand it's children's shows into the traditional afternoon slots - might cost a bit more but surely can't rate any worse than the "TV movies" which usually fill the slot. I think though that opportunity has probably passed now and it wouldn't be worth Five trying to capitalise on the removal of CITV from ITV1.

How about a Teen strand? I remember there had one back in the old days with daira, Harry and cosh, Atlantis High
of course the Tribe.

I think there could get away with moving Oz soaps to 5pm: Home and away, 5.30pm Neighbours. showing some teens shows at 6-7.pm.

Five news could be at 4.45pm for 15mins then again at 11pm for 15mins.

If it was me and they actually got Big Brother I would have:

5pm and Five News (7:55pm and 9:55pm updates)
5:30pm BBLB
6pm Neighbours
6:30pm Home & Away

It needs a year rest I think, its still a good format. Knowing Five, it will be back next year if they do take it up.

It's just going to seem weird as BB is being presented as if its the end (Ultimate Housemate etc).
