Five becomes Channel 5 on 14th Feb (July 2010)

Interesting to note from that digital spy article that 5* & 5USA won't change until March 7th. This happened with this current look, I don't understand why they launch at different times rather than all changing on the same day. Much as I don't understand leaving it until 18:30 as it will be a change from 'five' to 'Channel 5', rather than just a presentational refresh.

It does, however, make it a lot less stressful, in terms of capturing the idents, promos, ECPs and IPPs for those who run a TV Presentation site to get them online, as there isn't as much of a rush!

It's not the same is it anymore, with launches. Was just looking back at the Central launch and amazed at the fact they actually said, "And this is the new symbol that will be used to identify Central. Also, in the background is the specially-composed music for Central that will be used to start up and close down the station every night". You don't get that anymore!

AFAIK, TVS was the only other ITV region that did that.

Ah, probably just had my rose-tinted glasses on there for a minute.

Well - Central and TVS were two new regions taking over from older incumbents (ATV and Southern) so you'd expect them to make something of their identity. Did TSW do something similar ? They took over from Westward at the same time. ISTR that other regions retained their franchises - so had no need to big up their identities as it was already familiar.

(I do remember that Anglia caused quite a stir when they ditched the silver knight for their Lambie Nairn fluttering flag - itself a great bit of design that hasn't dated anywhere near as quickly as other late-80s brands)

This is what they did at midnight, audio only though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=As53uyTNE0E&t=40s

I've seen reference to '5 News' in the Express recently, when they've mentioned Emma Crosby.

It's very strange, all this. Nothing whatsoever by way of a preview, no press releases, nothing. You'd think, given Richard Desmond's love of cross promotion and building up hype, that we'd have some more details - how the idents will look, what the news set will look like and so forth. Maybe he's saving it for his Sunday papers, who knows.

His papers have been bigging up the channel ever since he bought it, I imagine they'll be a lot about the relaunch on Monday, but surely the point is to promote the channel's output? Logo and set design is intteresting to those who visit here, but not the average Express reader..... neither of them really care! Laughing

Quote:
As an aside - rumour has it that Denise Van Outen quit OKTV following a meeting with Richard Desmond, as they didn't see eye-to-eye with each other about the direction the show should take.

Maybe she was put off by the Star's glowing support for the English Defense League last week?

TVS only ever pointed out their 'new symbol which will soon become very familiar' which isn't far off what broadcasters continue to do to this day when they have a relaunch. Central probably felt compelled to make a big deal of their logo and music given the fact they were really ATV in new clothing. As an aside, I always find it interesting that during the final moments of ATV Mike Prince simply said 'from now we're Central' yet the next day they make a huge fuss of it.

I've been reliably informed that the first relaunched news bulletin will be at 12.40pm tomorrow.
