Interesting that the launch event logo is red so it matches all his printed media. The channel is now officially part of the family I guess.

It also hints that the head office is moving up to Canary Wharf - wonder how all the telly types will cope with not being in Covent Garden?

Watching that video gives me an air of real excitement that change is on its way. I do feel that they could have tried a little better with the logo.

Shocked

I still miss the 2002 logo if I'm honest.

Presumably in the same way the BBC types cope with being out in West London? Very Happy

I think the Five's office functions are moving to the N&S building in the City (a horrible blue glass building next to the river) - not as nice as either Covent Garden or Canary Wharf

They do have some TV facilities (and printing presses) on the Isle of Dogs - some way away from the smart offices in Canary Wharf. My understanding is that these will be used for Five too, presumably they'll bring the playout etc in-house from Ascent and Red Bee. Five is currently (and always has) come from a building in Tottenham Court Road

AFAIK, there was some sort of long-term deal done which tied Five into Ascent when Ascent bought the playout facility from Pearson TV. Presumably RTL preferred Red Bee, given their digital channels and DR facility is there. I wonder how easily N&S would be able to extricate themselves from their contracts if they wanted to take it in-house?

That's a good question. There was an article in the Guardian a few months ago about Five's move, although it just concentrated on Milkshake: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/aug/15/peppa-pig-avoids-axe-television-x
If it's 'presenters, on-screen promotions and transmission operation move to Northern & Shell premises.' then that sounds like everything will move, there's not much point in doing that just for a few hours in the morning.

The article also confirms what I said above: N&S's existing TV operation has production facilities in Docklands but playout is from Upper Thames Street in the City

The logo's okay but I think it would look better if they drop the channel bit as it's stick out like a sore thumb.

TBH I don't think the changes will be that dramatic, the stuff that works like factual shows, US imports, soaps and films will remain.

Looking at the new logo have they changed the font as some of the letters don't look curved anymore. Will Fiver get a new logo with Channel 5 as they did on the last relaunch?

I second that.

Yes, the 'five' logo was nice, very clean and classy. Always thought the current one was a bit too trendy and cartoony
