I really think they've missed a trick by not getting The Colbert Report on there (coming to FX in the summer - rumoured) and some other "hip" US stuff.
Why would they put them on Fiver when they've another channel that just shows US imports?
Don't they have The Ellen Genereres Show on Five Life? That's American.

But it also fits in with Life brand as its aimed at a female daytime audience.

Looks like the five logo wqon't be part of the new look if the trailker on media guardian's anything to go by:

(There is a curser that flashes after the FIVER too by the way)

Is Dave popular because it's called Dave, or because it has some great shows on it? It's still a crap name but I admit the idents and continuity announcers are pretty good. Fiver is just as crap, but they'll need the shows and personality to make it work too.

A lot of people thought Dave was a dreadful name for a television channel, but actually the rebranding of what was UKTV G2 (arguably an even worse name) has been a triumph. I reckon most Freeview users and a good deal of cable and satellite viewers would know what Dave was and what stuff was on it. Ask them a few years ago what was on UKTV G2 I'm not sure you'd have got much response...

Fiver? Possibly the worst name ever? And as for the logo/trailer... oh dear, not even a very good logo or style
I wonder what will happen to Five US

I don't think it's such a bad name. Better than Five Life, which to me sounds wishy-washy and extremely female-orientated - which of course was the point when it started out. But the channel needs to evolve to grow, and find a name that is less pigeon-holed.
Why do people have a problem with channels having more interesting and unusual names - surely it's more exciting than just opting for a numerical system, which was the way everything had been heading until Dave came along and broke the mould. What else could they call it, frankly? Five 2? Five Extra? Five Plus? Five Entertainment? All of these are bog standard, safe, TV channel names, which just fail to stand out any more.
Rant over...now, the one problem with 'Fiver' is that it is too similar to Five, which I can see causing some confusion. They'll have to employ an Irishman to do all the voiceovers involving the new name!

Does the fact they're not using the standard five logo font mean they're trying to pull a Channel 4 and go for disparate branding with a number being the common element? I thought the point of the two new channels was to strengthen the idea of the five brand so it becomes more recognisable.
IMO it's the 'five' element of the brand that's bog-standard and dull, they should have taken the braver step of renaming the parent channel so that it doesn't sound like a relic of the analogue days (I'm not necessarily suggesting RTL here). Does anyone have enough nostalgic attachment to the brand that they'd be upset to see it go?
