Five gets new look next spring

five movies ident

I just thing that the fantasy ident would have looked better with the actual five logo.

It does make me think what will they do next sunday for the dirty dancing night.

I thought the same about the movies ident, but i did like the look of it, as I said, it would be interesting to see an ident set based on a town, so a different area of the town/city for each programme/type of programme.

I'm confused now, if Five are phasing in these new idents now, what about the new look next Spring?

It's nothing unusual, they brought out a completely new set of idents, less than 6 months before they rebranded to 'five'. These are just additions, they're still using the others as well.

The word Five carved into Patrick Swayzees face close up if I had any say in it .......


The movies ident looked cheap and naff , not good.

The fantasy five was a lot better, nice little effort by them for their themed day.

Well yeah, gotta love the Dutch RTL logo's.

With all of the other five channels rebranding/renaming next year too, do you think that they may be planning to introduce the rtl branding over here?

And would it be a good thing or not?

In my opinion....

yes: the RTL logo design is a great brand and looks as though it could be used in many ways.

no: it will take away any originality from the uk (look at other world wide brands - main note Disney Channel, used to be original, look at it now). It would also end the five brand, not a good thing in my opinion.


Going back to the five brand as it is. The dog isn't bothering me at all. It would be nice if they had thought to place it into the bottom left to match in with the package, as many trailer endcaps now end with the logo bottom left.

The thing that's getting to be though is what they're doing with five news. They use the fivenews live logo on the news for obviously live reports, and because of the new dog, this has been moved to the right, but it now says five twice for quite a large proportion of shows.

My point, why can't they leave the usual five bug off and air the fivenews graphic (minus the live) through the programme and bring up the live when needed?

Does anyone else agree that the five lineup for tonight is really good? The cookery show at 6:30, whilst hardly being groundbreaking TV, was really good and a nice change. This Human Guinea Pigs thing looks alright. The Gadget Show is always excellent. I'm also intrigued by this live street crime show at 9.

All really good, homegrown stuff.

I watched Street Crime Live last week, it was ok, its like Crimewatch without a studio

Indeed the line up is great, and it's a shame that they don't get the audience that they deserve.

I think it's good that they are trialing programmes for the 6.30 slot. And the cookery programme seemed to be very well made, and a good idea for a programme.
It offers a good lead in for the sort of audience for that they seem to aim at for the rest of the evening schedule, where as years ago it was more young and male, it seems to know be older and female.
Maybe it could have a year long contract like Good Food/Great Food Live on UKTV Food (if that is still on air that is)

I know there are plenty more channels, but did the movie every night at 9 used to pull in more viewers than the average 9pm show nowadays?

I think "Five XY" would be a better name for Five US, as it keeps the male-skewed angle and allows the channel to move away from just American imports - UEFA Cup football, for example.

I quite like the idea of five being renamed as "rtl1", and the other two channels being "rtl2" and "rtl3" (dunno which would be which though).

They could compensate for the no-longer-descriptive channel names by heavily using slogans for a while around launch. E.g. something like:

"rtl2 - TV for the life you live"
"rtl3 - the best of the USA, here in the UK"

Or something.

Whichever one is the US channel could have the text of the logo written in US flag colours. E.g. the "r" and the top half of the "t" could be blue-with-white-stars, and the rest of the lettering could be red-and-white-horizontal stripes. Or something.
