Ghastly IPPs kept on popping up throughout The Hotel Inspector.
And was that a new ident before Californication? It involved lots of flashing cameras... quite nice.

Are we sure this testcard thing is a teaser for the new look? It's a bit far off yet isn't it? And it's not very, umm, teasing. It just looks crap. Much like the rest of the channel's presentation really.
I really hope the five logo goes soon. I've never taken to it.

Lol, sorry about that, I was joking, I didn't make it very obvious!

Coloured bars?! Now what channel did I used to see that idea on...
I saw it earlier today after a trailer for some new show which featured a guy on Conan O'Brien's set - is it for some Sunset Strip type clone?
Real shame about the DOG - I guess it is no coincidence that Five's marketing director, Jane Scott, left last week. Maybe the best the new person's come up with is "let's stick the DOG back on the channel".
Hopefully they'll look at it in a few months time, realise it's not made one iota of difference to viewing figures or getting people to remember what channel they're watching, and they'll dump it.

The new look and loss of the logo will reflect the channel's increasing confidence and improving programmes

Let's not forget, the whole point of a DOG is not to remind people what channel they are watching, as such. It is to reinforce the brand so that, if they specifically tune into something on the channel and like it, they will remember the programme having the DOG, remember it was five, and be more inclined to tune back another time.
That's the theory anyway. Obviously if the programme is rubbish, it'll make them less likely to tune back in, but then the people behind these things never consider all possibilities. Suppose it explains why Hollywood TV doesn't have a DOG.
I think this testcard thing is for 30 Rock by the way.

Well, I'm pretty sure 'Risk' (from the previous additions) notably doesn't end with the logo on-screen, and neither did 'Fear' which is probably the briefest logo appearance of the older batch. Thinking about it, it probably applies to a few more of the recent-ish lot - I don't watch enough Five to really be sure!
I ought to mention that, while I haven't caught sight of 'Fear' on-screen recently (I assume it is still in use?) it does a fantastic job of creating an air of dread and tension, with the combined success of the way it is shot plus the music score.
Re: the apparent test pattern & new look on the horizon, I did like the 5 coloured bars of old - it may have only been a concept for the purposes of pre-launch set retuning, but they stuck with it and I thought it was strong - shame they didn't really adopt it across the identity until a couple of years down the line. If it re-appeared in some form next year, I wouldn't complain; I'd quite welcome it in fact.

I don't like these new idents. They all seem a little too 'strange' for my liking, and I also don't like the way that they don't end with the logo on screen, because it vanishes half-way through.
