Five US, Five Life

One month on - do you watch it? (August 2006)

Hate the midday repeats though with the signer taking up half the screen!

Is the Saturday omnibus an omnibus of the week of episodes shown on Five or Five Life?

Well if people want to see the episode that much they will just have to put up with the signer. Some people are deaf and they are entitled to be able to enjoy the programme as well.

Well at the end of Five Life's omnibus today the announcer commented that we would get the chance to see it "all again" in the omnibus so it could be Five Life's.

The signer though is ridiculously large compared to others - and often quite intrusive.

The signal on Mux A has completly gone for me tonight so I've not seen the Five Life episode. They've been rating very well though and are certainly bringing up the share of Five Life.

Any overall ratings news for the week?

Digging this up - just wondering one month on how much you've watched Five Life and Five US.

Personally I've only been watching Five Life for Home and Away - apart from that I don't think I've watched anything on them!

I watched a couple of episodes of that American drama on Five US (Conviction I think it was called) but then gave up.

I also watch Home and Away on Five Life.

Why can't the signer be interactive - in other words to have the signer one would have to press the red button (a bit like the option for subtitles) - instead of being permanently part of the screen - thus giving the viewer option to see full screen drama or part screen drama with signer.

Can anybody name the female American voice of Five US?

If it's the same girl I've just heard introducing Joey , she sounds Irish, putting on an American accent.

Subtitles can be sent as plain text and superimposed by the decoder, taking up an absolutely tiny amount of bandwidth. Signing has to be transmitted as video, and probably can't be superimposed in the same way, so it would have to be transmitted on a separate channel.

I only watch Five Life out of the two, for the first chance Home and Away episodes, and for the best drama on TV right now - which also happens to be Australian - 'Love My Way'. Criminally underrated stuff.
