Well, it seems to me that Granada Media are happy to let YTV control the presention for their Northern Franchises. If Granada Television were controlling it maybe we`d be seeing something a bit different now, having said that Granada Media/Television, I think their really both the same thing or they dont know themselfs the difference between the two judging by recent endcaps.
However that does not explain why Border seem to have a bit more independance from their Northern neighbours. Does someone from Lookaround v/o this program menu then, I havn`t seen it yet
To be honest if it were not for *good* stations that I can now receive like UTV, HTV, London and SMG I'd be looking forward to the day that itv1 becomes one station as far as continuity is concerned.
I fail to perceive any situation in which any national network could possibly, in any way, shape or form, have a continuity system as fundamentally boring, useless, crap and dismal as the very best that Leeds have to offer, never mind the muck we're normally force-fed. The trailers are crap, the presentation is crap, the announcers are crap, they can't even align a recorded announcement properly and they give absolutely bugger all coherent information.
In fact it would be better if they sacked all their announcers at Leeds and left us with no announcements at all.

As gimmicky as it may be, it just makes a refreshing change - I mean, even BBC One are trying out friendlier continuity! And that invision on UTV is great - nice to see it some broadcasters think it has a place in the 21st century.
Like I say, the announcer-less Border ident going into the news is deliberate. It's a tradition that Border have had for many years (as did most of the IVA stations) and I think that it's fair play to them that they are prepared to keep some traditions.
As for the titles, well they are obviously the same ones they use for Lookaround. Yes they drag a little with the short bulletins, but that really is a minor gripe.
And I think that news studios (for short bulletins) should be as plain as possible. To cluttered and it just looks, well, wrong really. Again I think Border's is a very tasteful design.
For such a small company Border comes out with a lot of credit. It may not be apparent to people who live in the large, faceless regions like YTV that people in the smaller regions like the homely feel that a small station gives. Far better than expensive, flashy graphics.

I've got a few clips from Lookaround, yes they have always used the longer ident straight into Lookaround, I quite like it, it feels like you are watching Border's flagshiop programme.
