There has been an appalling lack of firework safety promotion this year, mainly because ITV has dropped overnight PIFs in favour of programme promotion.
I did catch the PIF on BBC2 before Family Guy - tell me insiders, when are there likely to be any again?
Anyone remember the 'Never Fool With Fireworks' thing? Wasn't really a PIF, as it had a BBC logo at the end, but it was still about firework safety. It was a live action programme showing this man in a firework suit generally messing around. It had a copyright date of 1992, yet it was still going until at least 2000, as I have a bit of it on tape from that year (about sparklers - this woman waves them around, and then the guy comes in and grasps one with his bare hand). The tagline was:
"Don't be a (bizarre sound effect),
Never fool with fireworks"

This was actually a Schools programme, which ran from 1992-1999 and featured the adventures of Ed Banger and chums. Various sketches were slotted in during gaps in Daytime on 2, or as a billed service.
Sara Stockbridge (EastEnders, Grange Hill) played Sarah Sparkler and Ed Banger's lack of safety consciousness always got the better of him!
In the past few years BBC1 have a tendancy to show a Fireworks PIF between CBBC and Neighbours at 5.35pm, though I'm not sure if this is the case for this year.
I saw a strangely light hearted one today, which i've never seen before. It kept joking about the child holding the sparkler and the dad holding the child in one hand or something. Anyone know the one i mean? Was very light hearted actually.

Did a kid stand in a bucket with a sparkler in teir hand?

Ah, thanks. It was definitely still around in 2000, though- I think later on on the tape is Judith Keppel becoming the first person to win a million on WWTBAM, and that was November 2000.
