Oh dear lord, another re-launch to compete with Sky Sports, I stressed out when Ray said we were going over to Swansea v Cheltenham as I did not know where Swansea was, but thanks to a giant S all is well with the world again
Have the BBC started to show the map as part of the public service remit to educate people???? Do schools no longer teach political/populous geography to children????

I'm not too sure that these new graphs work for a widescreen TV viewer. In order to make them 4:3 safe, which they have to do, the graphics all stop in the middle of the screen on a widescreen TV, and just leave a lot of wasted space.
can't believe anyone chooses to watch this programme over Soccer Saturday anyway.
Agreed. I find this a tad flat in comparison with the likes of Jeff Stelling, Chris Kamara, Charlie Nicholas and so on.
Thank god the league season is fnally here!
Couldn't be more right. Its a shame most people still watch "normal TV" over most of the time alot better quality through Sky, and don't try out Sky Sports Soccer Saturday.
I must admit I watch Jeff Stelling and crew nowadays, although when back home in Bolton my dad does tend to watch Score/Final Score on BBCi. But the best Saturday football show, IMHO, was ITV's Football First/Goal Rush and it was made by Meridian for ITV2 (first series) and then both ITV1 and 2
They are using the left hand side for some useful things today as well as that annoying map, like teams and stats. I would still prefer the scores by division though!!
Also i'm not too sure Garth's liking the new format for watching games. He said 'i'm looking at about 15,000 monitors here - i don't know what i'm looking at!'. I'll reserve judgement on it till later..
Score is dismal, too many animating graphics, pointless graphics, lifeless presentation and absoutely zero atmosphere. It's impossible to keep up to date with all the scores unless you like reading a ticker.
They may as well just shut up shop, Sky own this format.

Perhaps because some of us prefer the BBC's authority over tacky graphics and cheap sensationalist journalistic standards. Some people, generally the younger end of the market prefer Sky's style but equally some get bored with the sensationalist approach and look for a more mature, informed and authoritative version and who really aren't bothered about graphics as long as they get the information they require.
Also there are people about who deplore News International's attitude and prefer to keep away from their newspapers and TV stations.
But then we have freedom of choice, something that Murdoch's people would prefer you exercise purely amongst the channels they offer.

I think you'll find it's BBC Sport with the tacky graphics, Soccer Saturday's are pretty plain. I wouldn't exactly call it sensationalist, they go through the results and latest scores. You are a prime example of what the previous poster said about peoples' attitudes to Sky, you've obviously never watched Soccer Saturday because your description of it couldn't be any further from the truth.

You have a right to your opinion, but I am concerned by anyone who thinks that a chief criticism of something is how it looks, but then I prefer to judge things by their content and not how shiny they look.
However claiming I've never watched Sky Sports' offerings is laughable. I was a subscriber to Sky Sports virtually from its inception in the early 90s and watched Sky Soccer Saturday for several years, and was hugely relieved to be able to leave the loudmouths like Rodney Marsh behind once the BBC offered an alternative service.
I cancelled my Sky subscription a few years ago once I could see they were abusing their near-monopoly of satellite TV by hiking prices up to ridiculous levels. I can find Sky Sports News somewhere on my free cable service but to be honest whenever I have found it what I saw was desperately poor if flashily-presented- hence the comment about dire journalistic standards which are reflected in the dreadful match reports and updates in Soccer Saturday. That and idiots screaming at TVs finally persuaded me to look elsewhere - and to hell with something so minor as graphics.
I'm not attempting in any way to say that others shouldn't watch and enjoy Sky Sports, but explaining to the original poster why some people don't blindly swallow everything Murdoch throws at us.
Some people actually like reading The Sun for example - others prefer something a little more substantial.
