Also read out the rugby scores on Grandstand as well. Only the second person to give out the football results on Final Score - Len Martin was the first, from 1958. Tim took over on Len's death in 1995.

There was a man on Sportscene (BBC Scotland's equivelant to Final Score) who did it for years but suddenly got replaced by the main presenter. No idea why, who or where he is.

John Cavanagh of Radio Scotland springs to mind here.

I cannot be arsed with the current Afternoon Sportscene set-up - Stuart Cosgrove and two guests "discussing" football issues, silly segments such as "Good Week Bad Week", and constant cutting to David Currie as the results come in. On top of that the results are read out over backing music!

Please, BBC Scotland, ditch this format. All I (and no doubt countless others) want to see is scores coming in followed by the classified results - none of this crap in between.

I think Tim took over on Len's retirement, he came back to do the classifieds on a Grandstand anniversary show a few years ago, and did the Premiership results with a very wheezy croaky voice before Tim took over for the rest.

I quite like the discussions with Stuart Cosgrove. The latest scores were getting a bit boring on their own.

It would, however, be a lot better if they put the vidiprinter and latest scores graphics on top of them though. It seems a bit stupid having a little box in the corner with scores at a time when people are tuning in for the results.

Steve In Pudsey- No, Tim took over after Len's death in 1995, Len kept going till the very end.

Someone older than me once told me that Len actually officially "retired" on one occasion but was brought back "on contract" where he then remained until he died.

Len had long since passed on by the time Grandstand's 40th anniversary came round.

though I must admit Alan Lambourne on Sky has the best voice for it, in my opinion.
