I remember my first viewing of the new BBC1 globe in '91. I'd spotted in that week's Radio Times that the logos they had at the top of the colums had changed and presumed (correctly) that the logos were changing. I got up specially to see the switch (I was an ident freak from a very early age - I was nine in 1991) and put on the 7am BBC News Headlines on 1 (followed by Zorro or similar then CBBC leading up to Going Live at 9) - anyway, when I first saw the new clock I was so shocked and scared I switched over! I thought it was broken! I thought 'Where's the back, it's just the hands!'
Anyway I switched back during CBBC, and GL opened with 'We declare the new look BBC1 officially open' with Scophield and Greene cutting the ribbon, and then I realised the 'bubble' (i.e. see-thru) qualities of the '91 ident. I didn't watch 2 until later that day - I think Blade was the first I saw of those. To be honest the COW was and still is my favorite BBC1 globe, as it 'appen...
