Superb. And like the Channel 4 mothership, almost limitless with different articles appearing, which can be CGI'ed in to future refreshes.
Would have like ManvsMachine to have done a video 'making of' but..

And what's the significance of the red balloons? Wink

These are pretty great... The whole visual approach is superb - probably the best I've seen for an ident set in a good while, really well thought out and shot - and the soundtrack (and variations) are well done too. I think my favourite of these are the Corridor versions...

I think these idents are great, because I symbolizes what film is, as the logo comes on it is in between a reel of film and a zoetrope and the fact that (I think) the film4 is made from real pieces rather than cgi (I've only got this from the making of video), obviously some parts will be cgi but that media isn't it. Also does anybody else think that a red balloon is maybe a new symbol as on appears in Gas Station, Stairway, Corridor & Doorway

(Mutters with embarassment) Embarassed Sorry Phil- Thanks for linking.

Pity it's about 30 mins too short, and really doesn't go into any of the background creative process in depth, with any interviews with the director or producers. Would have liked to have seen and heard about that.

Also, something is starting to bug me.
In the 'corridor' set of idents there are a series of uplighters on each side of the walls. When the picture starts to roll, these then create the effect of light passing throught the sprocket holes on a roll of film. It would have been nice if the 'light passage effect' could have been built into each of the different scenes as a bit of contiunity across the package, instead of some cryptic message/in-joke about red ballons.

And good to see in at least one of them, the Film 4 logo is made from yer actual plywood/plastic and real, rather than rendered frame by frame by someone sitting at a effect computer in post-prod.

Whilst the look might be a huge improvement over what we had before, that logo badly needs updating. Making a 4 symbol out of film stock or something would at least be interesting to look at and symbolise the name and type of channel if only the logo was visible, and marketedly better than just some straight lines which is essentially what we have now.
