Looks like C4 are beginning to make an issue out of their silver anniversary, with an advert celebrating 25 years of Film4 (though it's only been around since 1998 technically!) airing.

The main point I wanted to make was the logo at the end, formed in a similar way to the C4 idents with a white lightbox and a series of red boxes forming the Film4 logo.

Actually the "Film On 4" strand started long before FilmFour the channel did

I suppose technically "Film4" has only been around six months, with FilmFour, and as you say, Film on 4, around before that.

Were films made by C4 prior to the launch of FilmFour branded as "Film on 4" when released (I know they were on TV) - may have been something like "Channel 4 Film" IIRC?

Channel 4 have been making films for 25 years so I assume that's what they were referring to. It was originally called Channel 4 Films, and was renamed FilmFour Productions (now Film4) to coincide with the launch for the channel.

Anyhow, don't focus on the "technically" part, focus on the how nice the logo looks at the end part!

I am hoping - and thinking - that C4 will make a big deal out of 25 years on air in November, if nothing else to give their Autumn ratings a nostalgic inspired boost!

Me too. I hope Channel 4 show the first episode of Countdown at 4.45pm possibly with the first ident. I wonder is S4C are going to do anything aswell? That started on 1st November 1982, 1 day before Channel 4.

Well the Film4 logo was very nice, obviously modelled on the Channel 4 idents.

I look forward to seeing what Channel 4 has in store for their 25th anniversary.

That's a nice idea. I expect DoND will do something cheap and daft like having boxes in the C4 logo colours, 80's clothes or a cake or... hm.

One for the mocks forum (and for someone better than me to do) but they can so easily incorporate the classic logo into the current white 3D branding just by inserting the relevant colours behind each part of the logo.

As for the idents themselves - I'd rather see something special than reruns of the old idents. They did a whole set for "4 is 15" ten years ago, so perhaps they will again this time.

I'd imagine the best options are using the current style, but with the C4 logos being either silver or in the original colourings.

Also, things like the sofa ident could easily be adapted, with the Countdown clip replaced with the classic C4 idents. Actually, has that resurfaced (with a new clip) since Des Lynam left Countdown?

Another idea is the return of 4 Daily just for that day but it's very unlikely.

I'm sure they will show a 100 best Channel 4 moments type programme with Jimmy Carr. Although that is probably in the schedules anyway

The likes of Justin Lee Collins and Russell Brand will explain how everyone must have been on drugs in the early days of Channel 4

And to mark the week of the 25th birthday, there will be 25 episodes of Deal or No Deal shown

I like the idea of the current 4 ident being used but with the old colours.

I would expect them to have a special countdown show,
along others

15 2 1
right to reply
big breakfast
etc but doubtful
