Film 24 is a good channel with a terrible name. Even though this film programme doesn't really interest me,
it is nice to hear they are doing live programming
.
Shouldn't the title of this thread really be "Film 24 buys in someone else's chat show"? It sounds as if Film 24 have bought the rights to show a US chat show - rather than commissioned or made it themselves?
Yes, I thought that. Very misleading. It airs on 'Encore' in the US.
This is a shame. It was one of the better independent channels and they never went down the psychic route like so many others before them. I will miss the channel especially the Southern programmes.
I can't find anything on the internet or the film24 website to confirm this. The only information I could find was on the wikipedia article which says:
"In May 2010 despite constantly rising viewing figures future funding was withdrawn leading to the iminent closure of the channel and redundancy of all it's staff."
There's been no updates to their RSS Feed, Twitter or Facebook pages since May 18th, and emails sent to them are being returned as undeliverable.
There's no listings on their website from 29th May from 6am onwards, although the listings which are there are wrong anyway.
Film24 seem to have dropped a lot of programming over the last few days (such as In The House with, and the Southern programming), and from today are showing a 4 day schedule, with exactly the same schedule repeated every 4 days. The listings on their website look like what they would have shown if they hadn't changed to this 4 day schedule.
There's still been no updates to the websites listed in the previous post.
The following has been added to the Wikipedia article:
"In May 2010 Angad Paul (director and shareholder) withdrew further funding forcing the channel into liquidation leaving many suppliers significantly out of pocket."
I know Wikipedia isn't a very reliable source, and they haven't given any sources for the information, but even if the parent company has withdrawn funding, if Film24 is still receiving advertising revenue and is a profit making company, then surely it should be able to continue operating without having to close down?
if Film24 is still receiving advertising revenue and is a profit making company
You make the the second part sound like a foregone conclusion if the first part is true.
No I don't. They're 2 separate statements in one sentence. I do realise that just because a company receives income, that doesn't necessarily mean it will make a profit.
If I had said "if Film24 is still receiving advertising revenue and therefore is a profit making company", then your statement would be correct.
Having said that, given the increasing number of programme commissions and acquisitions over the last few months, I think it's fair to assume that Film24 is (or was) making a reasonable profit. If Film24 was making a loss, I think it's highly unlikely that Caparo would pay for all these programmes.
