Filling the Blockbusters board

Question about an edition of Blockbusters where there was no winner on a board! (August 2015)

It was during the middle of a programme I recall fanoftv, and I do recall the jingle played and board zoomed in and the hexagons changed colour, meaning the end of a game. According to Wikipedia, it was seemingly impossible for a tie to happen, emphasising David's point. I'm sure it did happen though, but then again, I was a child in the 80s!

What you might have seen, is the VERY last Hex being won to make the connection?

I definitely remember seeing this happen, and Bob remarking, "There can't be a stalemate in Blockbusters."

and the other common outcome to most Blockbusters games - the mutual square, guaranteed Blockbusters one way or another. Although it wasn't a square, the phrase "mutual hexagon" doesn't sound so good Wink

The human mind is pretty good at "remembering" things that never happened. Loads of Star Wars fans claim to remember seeing a particular scene cut a certain way in 1976/77, despite absolutely no evidence ever turning up for the existence of that cut. My friend insists that we watched Fright Night (the new version) together, but I'm equally certain we didn't (I've never seen it at all). And I used to have an even better example from my own life, but, ironically, I can't remember what it was.

Maybe Bob said those words, but not because a stalemate had actually occured, and over the years you've constructed a false memory around that moment.

Edit: and by "you" I mean the other guy who isn't you at all. Embarassed

I distinctly remember a Tom & Jerry Chuck Jones cartoon which was set in a large house with a stylised, freaky picture of Tom on the wall next to a large staircase. Despite my owning all the T&J cartoons in existence, I have not seen it again!

In the US version, they called it "dual implication".

I never suggested a stalemate had occurred - indeed if it had, Bob wouldn't have said that. Maybe you've constructed a false memory around the post to which I was referring. Wink

I've often wondered that about Countdown too. If somebody has not become an octochamp but has say won 4 games in a row with the semi finals soon to begin, how do they time it to give the player the chance to continue, but to allow the semis to begin on time.

Champions carry over to the next series, so I guess if they've won enough games to qualify for the finals of the existing series they qualify for those but otherwise carry their score over to the next series. Not sure though how they've dealt with the couple of occassions where the format has changed in between series.

As for Blockbusters just take an image of the grid and try and fill 10 hexagons without either those or the unfilled ones completing a vertical or horizontal line. I couldn't manage it in three attempts so it must be impossible. Wink

For years I thought I'd remembered an old Bugs Bunny cartoon with Elmer Fudd singing the song "Run Rabbit Run", only to not find any proof of this ever existing. Assumed it was just my memory confusing things, but then when Youtube arrived I realised I was remembering this!

Was that even allowed? Or did they tighten up the rules after that.
