Caught the BBC ad tonight - toy versions of Lineker and co. trying to hitch a lift with the BBC to the World Cup.

Also notice in the ITV press release they're using the old Granada Studios car park to create a Fan Zone, screening many of the 5pm, 8pm and 9pm matches. I wonder if they'll take the BBC feed for non-ITV matches.

Nice idea, not sure on that, there a reasons to and not to. I don't think there is anything stopping them using their own feed in theory.

Of course the other big story today is their may well be adverts during these possible drink breaks in each half, ITV yet to make a decision.

Well it also lives on the BBC.

Er so does Drama, News etc...

I hope you can explain the differences with this situation. I think they're pretty clear.

Interesting - I see no reason why they shouldn't if there will be a break in play (although not sure if OFCOM would permit them), though of course the trouble is ITV will get the blame for them and be seen as forcing the players to stop play in order for them to screen ads even though that's clearly not the case.

The worry is though if they introduce ads this time they'll put pressure on other tournaments to introduce similar stoppages in order to screen ads midway through the half - something that thankfully football has avoided doing all these years.

If I was ITV I wouldn't air ads there, especially with the BBC obviously not doing, and it being a first with no revenue being lost as it was revenue they never had in the first place.

Is let another broadcaster do it first, if it occurs in another tournament and let it become more common place before adopting it, so it doesn't look like the players are stopping just so ITV can screen an advert.

The fan park is an unexpected idea, particularly unexpected that they are using Granada studios. I'm surprised they haven't arranged one in London as well, even if they had to use a site they don't own, such as Hyde Park or maybe Queen Elizabeth II park, as its unusual if there is only one of something for it to be up north!

I wouldn't bet on that, some bright spark at the Beeb may well stuff promos in those breaks (they have done for Wimbledon in recent years)

I can see a betting company coming in during these drink breaks and showing live odds like that thing that comes up on BT Sport just before a live Premier kick off.

And Sky. And Channel 4 Racing.

ITV will not cash in and show commercials during World Cup drinks breaks

Quite a blow to ITV today with Roy Keane opting not to join them in Brazil. Easily their best pundit IMO, and arguably the best across the BBC and ITV teams,

Actually this pleases me, his remarks really are from the past, critical and not constructive in any way. Occasionally boorish too.
