The BBC today announced plans to increase television coverage by a whopping 50% compared to 2010 in South Africa. And with less staff too. At this stage in 2010 articles were appearing about the BBC's Cape Town studio. Has anyone seen any information about the studio for this year?
Although as there is 0% more football that's 50% more filler.
Sad though the BBC now feels the need to justify itself and the use of people in providing it's people - especially when the biggest critics of staff send to cover such events are the first to complain if there are any flaws in the coverage.
Well, at least the BBC coverage is only "bloated" this time, rather than "excessive" as it was in 2010.
Oh dear...
Also, it really annoys me that the word "jolly" is even used. It's not a jolly for any of the staff, they'll all be working bloody hard. Fine, call it a misallocation of resources if you want, but nobody is going on a jolly!
Ah, yes, one of those standard units of measurement, A Football team, they don't appear to have used
the other two popular ones, Olympic Swimming Pool, and Double Decker Bus ?
In terms of the television coverage - in addition to the BBC's live games, there will be late-night match replays on BBC Two, plus a daily highlights show with Mark Chapman/Dan Walker at 7.30am on BBC Two (presumably focussing on the 11.00pm kick-offs from the previous night).
I wonder if we'll get new BBC Sport graphics for the World Cup, also whether the BBC will be able to use their graphics instead of the official FIFA ones again.
New graphics are possible it was 4 years ago when the last lot were brought in and they seem to like to use the World Cup, with the new FA Cup contract next year I wouldn't be surprised if they made effort. But then this is a post-DQF BBC and the current graphics are still quite nice and the work well for the brand (sorry Brekkie).
As you say they often do get bought in for the World Cup if the BBC refresh their graphics, but I can't see it happening this time. Have the official ones been released online anywhere (they usually are) - though they probably won't be too different from what we've had before. Everythings become a bit too standardised nowadays so fresh graphics for major events don't seem to be considered as important as they once were.
Surprised ITV haven't used the slogan 'Where The World Cup Lives' for their promo...unless the era 'lives' era now over?Shame if it is, for me it works.
